Leather-bound librarian provided 'sadistic, yet caring' services online
This has got some press on one of the lists I'm on. Several people on that list have rallied to her support. I hope she doesn't catch any flak for her lifestyle. On the one hand, I agree that it's not necessary to quantify all your predelictions for your boss. Actually, what a person does in off-time, so long as it is not illegal or brings up ethical questions of conflict-of-interest, shouldn't be anyone's business but his or her own. Unfortunately, some businesses see it differently. I know my employer has as part of its policies one that covers employees being held accountable for activities off the job. I clarified that when someone invited me to write an article on safer sex for people with latex allergy [warning: requires Adobe Acrobat Reader] (latex allergy being one of my own health issues, so I've done a bit of research on it). I wanted to make sure that there wasn't a problem with writing the article given that I work at a children's hospital. True, they're totally unrelated, but still...you never know what will set someone off. Fortunately, it wasn't a problem. Hope it works out for her.
