A decent day

Today I was off work. I had a great PT appointment, took friend to the doctor, and went to the dentist who fixed a broken tooth in addition to the teeth cleaning. She figured out why it was breaking (another tooth was too high and was going up against it when I ate). She took that one down and they essentially did a filling with the correct colour on my front tooth which has now chipped in the same place four times. So I have a smile again.😃Plus it was nice to get away from work, with its week of Mondays, or so it has seemed, for a day.

So I had two appointments scheduled

for the 23rd.  So I got off work because they were far enough apart, what would be the point of coming in late.  Then I realised a friend had a dental appointment and needed a ride. So that was three.  Then I wound up with two more.

So...8 am psychiatry telehealth to follow up on my depression and monitor changes, 10:50 am gel injection in my knee, 12:30 pm physical therapy evaluation for balance issues, 2 pm friend's dental appointment, 7 pm behavioural coach telephone call. Whew! We'll see how that goes.

Just a quick note before bed

I need to get up early tomorrow morning and go into work to make up some time for leaving a little early for my dental appointment today. I also need to drop something off at a friend's before work, so that means I need to get up even earlier than I'd originally planned. Of course, I tried to get up at 6 am and wound up getting up at 7:55 this morning. I've just been dragging out of bed the last few days, both work and weekend days, so I don't think it's just oh, I have so much to do and so little time and work has been somewhat more stressful than normal. And I'm getting a decent amount of sleep. I really think I need to recharge my batteries, have a bit of a real vacation, but I have very little personal time off (I tend to use that for things like today's appointment, rather than fun stuff, and when I was off with my ankle they used two weeks' worth of time that should have been extended illness, and I never got it corrected, so that was my fault, and it's been too long now). Even if I could have a week, I think I'd feel better. The next day off is July 4th, but I don't see taking any extra days with that long weekend.

Today they adjusted my upper partials (apparently it wasn't user error, but rather it was hanging up on a canine), and then a tooth came off of the lower partial, so I sat around for an hour at the dentist while they repaired that. But these are my temporary partials--I get impressions made at the beginning of August for the permanent ones. Unfortunately due to my appointment taking longer than I expected, I wasn't able to give A a ride home from his appointment, but I did feed him dinner when he got home. :) I visited over there for awhile and did some things to help out with something, and then I came on home. My knee is hurting (7 days till I hopefully find out why) and my ankles are swollen. I'm going to have to ditch my sandals despite the heat; the New Balance walking shoes do so much better for my ankles, as they have much more support and orthotics in them to boot. I'll save sandals for skirts and capris, and just keep to the others for my normal pants.

Okay, I've downloaded my readings from my glucose monitor and cleared the readings on the machine. I've charged it while I've typed, which should bring it back to full by now. I think I'll take my nightly meds and head on to bed, get this knee elevated, etc. I hope you had a good start to your week. Last night's news stories left me sort of down. I also found someone on Facebook with whom I've been estranged for years, my father, and that saddened me, too--not enough to contact him, as I think I gave as much into that relationship as I could have, and it's good to have an idea of where he is, because, well, I like to know where the people I've put into my past are, but it saddens me, too, because as a child I desperately wanted to be loved by him, and even after my parents divorced tried to keep things going, only to have him end things over petty greed and lies. I know now that I will never have the nurturing I wanted or deserved, and I tend to forge ahead as if I never really had a father, but of course, I did, and not the one I wanted in my head, but the one I actually had. But I do know as we both get older (he's a senior citizen now), I think of the whole situation with some amount of regret. I wonder if he does the same of me. I'll probably never know.

It is very quiet in the Rowan household

I got in from visiting friends about 9 pm, and did not pass go, did not go to the computer, did not collect $200. Instead I turned on some Loreena McKennitt and promptly went to sleep. I think I heard two songs, or maybe one-and-a-half, before falling into slumber. Now it's 1:30 am and I'm up. It was a very busy day at work today, and I had a lot of things that popped up that I had to attend to right then, putting off some of my other work, but I got all the vital stuff done. Then I went to the pharmacy to get some medicine for a friend, then to the dentist to get a permanent crown, then over to my friends' house, where among other things I did some troubleshooting on the computer. Tomorrow I'm going to check how the partials do with the new crown. If all goes well with the bite and everything, then it's time to start thinking about making permanent partials, which means taking impressions again.

Tomorrow the plan is to finish up everything I need to as I will not be at work Thursday, but have taken some time off to be with my family. After work it's over to my friends' house for 'The 100', after picking up an interlibrary loan book from the Lexington Public LIbrary. Friday it's back to work and then over to watch 'Grimm' (it's the season finale). Saturday my friends are visiting family. Sunday there is no game because Brenda is going to an SCA event. So things won't be in their usual routine. Tomorrow I should be getting Saving Mr Banks from Netflix, so perhaps we can all watch that Sunday instead.

I guess I'll try to go back to sleep. Sorry, it's been sort of quiet here of late, without much to write about. That's not actually a bad thing. I've worked hard to minimise the drama in my life. :)

Just got home from the dentist a little while ago

They prepared my tooth that had the recalictrant canals for a crown, took impressions, and put a temporary on it. They also were able to fix my lower partials, which broke when I dropped my purse (they had been inside a plastic container). It was suggested to me that if I transport them like that at all, I should have a washcloth in the bottom of the container. I hadn't thought of that (although it's a rather small container, so it would have to be a small, thin one, or one cut down). Anyway, I have now eaten and although I'm tired, I'm going to go back out. I was about to plant some flowers and then watch 'The Big Bang Theory', but alas, I need to take a friend to the store for a few things to tide them over till Saturday. That really is more important. Oh, well. I'll set 'Big Bang' to record and plant the flowers when I get home, if there's any light. Otherwise there's tomorrow, I guess, although that's a 'Grimm' night. But I'll get them taken care of, even if I have to do it inside where there's some light.

Tomorrow I need

to call my optometrist and order new contacts (my glasses are already ordered at the optician's) and then call my dentist and make an appointment for the restoration and crown on that troublesome molar, which the endodontist could not totally take care of. Apparently one channel is still calcified. She said if I ever had trouble with it, I would require some minor surgery. She wants to see me in a month, too. I also need to tell my dentist about the broken partial. We'll see what can be done about that. It is a temporary one, at least. And there is a warranty on the finished product of about six months, too. So hopefully it won't cost much more. I am reminded of the skeleton that Charlton Heston finds in the original Planet of the Apes, where the person had various aids to help his body's deficits, or the snake in The Seven Faces of Doctor Lao, who makes fun of the frailties of the human body. Between my eyes, my teeth, and my aches and pains, I'm feeling my age of late.

I just haven't felt myself lately. Partly it's my blood sugar, which has been higher since I changed from the Invokana to Byetta, and I haven't been eating particularly well the last couple of days, either. I'm going to try to be better on that. But even with just the medicine change, I'm suddenly up in the 300s in the morning, which is not good at all.

Tonight I went over to YKWIA's and watched 'The 100'. I hadn't seen it in a couple of weeks. It was a really good episode. I like the show quite well. It really keeps one's interest, going back and forth between the ark in space and the kids on earth who are the test subjects for whether mankind can survive in a post-nuclear world.

But now I'm home, and I think I'm going to just turn in. I'm still working on waking up early enough to do something around the house. If not, I usually stay home on Thursday nights, so I can work on it then. Friday's 'Grimm'. Saturday I've got a project already lined up, but I won't be taking A to the grocery, as he'll be out of town. Sunday may be the game, so tomorrow I should try to do the game notes. Anyway, have a good night.

Well, drat

I broke my lower partial denture. I now have two halves. Fortunately these are temporary ones, but grrr. Tomorrow I go back to the endodontist to see if she can finish the root canal on my tooth with the calcified canals. Then I'll set up an appointment with my dentist. I have been having trouble with the lower ones and was going to ask them to assist them, but now I'll have to see what they will do.

Thursday, March 27, 2014

I am convinced that, as YKWIA put it, I have mutant teeth (or, the dental saga continues...)

So last week when they did my crown prep they found a tooth had decay that apparently did not show up on the x-ray and they scheduled a root canal for this morning. Unfortunately, all did not go smoothly. This tooth has three roots (being an upper molar) and while two canals were able to be taken care of, one is totally calcified shut. This means that tomorrow I will be going to a specialist called an endodontist, who should have special tools to open up the canal and take care of the rest of the procedure. I found out I had a 9:15 am appointment at 4:50 pm today, so I e-mailed my bosses and hopefully everything will be fine. I am getting tired of going to the dentist and each time something else is amiss. I've been lucky in terms of no horrendous complications, but it's still frustrating. Today they had to just put the temporary crown back on even though it didn't exactly fit anymore due to the drilling, and they told me to chew on the other side as much as possible and they'd try to get me in to the specialist quickly, which, of course, they did do. There is no one in my insurance plan within 40 miles who practices endodontics, so I had to call my insurance company and request a pre-authorisation to see this out-of-network specialist, which they did give readily, at least. Sigh. Please tell me this will be over soon. I'm not thrilled by dental visits when everything goes right, much less when there seems to be layers and layers of problems out there. Yet we want to save this tooth because it will help the stability of the partial denture--which I'm still trying to get used to, as there have been some issues in having to adjust them so I can wear them properly. YKWIA thinks I have gotten myself locked into bad dentistry. I don't know about that. I did chastise the dentist this morning for not numbing my gums before shooting them with Novocaine. Maybe some people don't care about it, and I won't say it was unbearable without it, but he should have at least asked, don't you think? It's not like they didn't do that all the other times I've been there. :(

As an aside, YKWIA discovered while searching for calcification in teeth that one thing that can contribute to it is a disorder called ankylosing spondylitis, something I was vaguely familiar with, as it comes up at work (I work in a paediatric orthopaedic hospital). Not to sound like a complete hypochondriac, but looking at the symptoms, it might be something to ask my doctor about, as it involves chronic pain, especially in the back and sacroiliac joint, as well as in other joints, etc., etc. That's obviously vague, and those symptoms could be caused by other things, such as degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis, or fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome (I have the first in my neck, the second in most of my joints, and fibromyalgia as well). But my back hasn't been imaged in 20 years except for my cervical area. I've had SI issues and some of the other listed symptoms, but sometimes things like this could be difficult to diagnose or have other co=morbid diagnoses. But it might be good to have it checked out because in rare cases it can affect the eyes and organ tissue as well. But it would be weird if I did test positive for the blood tests, was diagnosed, and it was all because of a blocked place in a tooth, wouldn't you say? Still, the fact that canals calcify with age may be the simpler reason.

Okay, tomorrow comes early. Off to bed I go, Good night.

Saturday, March 01, 2014

Today I was off from work, and I:

  1. Went over to the endocrinologist very early, and she took me off the oral medication Invokana and on the injectable Byetta, as my Ha1C went up and I was having some unpleasant side effects in the form of recurrent yeast infections.
  2. Grabbed a quick bite between appointments.
  3. Went to the dentist, who very quickly took out that little tooth that had been under the crown which had come off, and he put my new partials in.
  4. Amused a friend with my attempts to talk with the partials in, although he did point out that I improved somewhat as the day went on.
  5. Took a nap.
  6. Watched both the 'Grimm' from before the Olympics (where you meet Monroe's parents) over at my house and then tonight's 'Grimm' with YKWIA over at his house. Scary serial killers.
  7. Watched a couple of episodes of the cartoon 'Dan vs.' with YKIWA.
  8. Came home, took out the partials (yay!) and brushed them with a soft toothbrush. The wires get a bit gummy with stuff. But I did figure out how to get them out; now I just have to figure out how to get them back in.
  9. Ate a bit without the partials as I'm a little more comfortable with that right now, although I was doing better as the day went by with them in.
  10. Checked Facebook, this blog, and now I'm going to head to bed soon. I'm very tired after a long day of doctor's appointments and trying to adjust to these things in my mouth.
  11. I do need to leave my libation for Hekate tonight, as well.

A bit of a setback

in terms of my teeth. The good news is my gums are doing well and healing. The bad news is that there was a crown that came off a tooth, along with the filling underneath it, during the surgery. Before they can do the last of the impressions needed to do my partials, something has to be done about that tooth first. My options? Build the tooth up with a post and filling, put a new crown on it, and hope that it holds together over the long-term, or have it removed (this time as an office visit without sedation). I chose the latter after looking at the tiny nub of a tooth and deciding that it would be better and cheaper to go ahead and have it removed. So in a couple of weeks when my gums have healed some, I'm to go in for impressions, and then three days later have that tooth taken out, whereupon (in theory) they will send me home with the partials in place. So this is turning into a somewhat unhappy saga. It is especially disappointing because I was supposed to do the wax bite today and get my partials tomorrow originally, and went over there thinking it would be a short appointment that moved things forward. Instead I got bad news and had a decision to make.

Okay, today I went back to work and then went to the dentist and got the news. I picked A up and got some things from the store, then dropped him off. Now I find that I'm pretty tired. I think I'm going to lie down for a bit, anyway. Then I really should get up and take some things out to the Dumpster and recycling containers, before yet more snow comes tomorrow. I'm really trying to hang on to the idea that we're supposed to get temperatures in the 60s towards the end of next week. It couldn't come too soon.

My computer will start a tune-up in three minutes, two, one...

So here's a brief post before going to bed.

On my mind today, January 28th

1986--I spent the day in shock watching the Challenger disaster over and over again; I still mourn those lost.

2000--The loss of my beloved grandfather, at peace after a long and terrible battle with emphysema.

2014--Was saddened to hear of the death of Pete Seeger, who lived his life by music and trying to make the world a better place.

Also had a great dental cleaning and picked up some donated books to take to the hospital where I work from a store halfway to the next town. Then spent time with YKWIA and A, and watched 'The Originals' and 'Supernatural'. Now it's time to go to bed. Good night.

I'm getting a little tired of this whole 'polar vortex' cycle

of snow followed by brutal temperatures. We're warming up today to the 20s with an additional 3-6 inches possible of snow, and then the temperatures are going to plunge in a day or so back to the subzero range. Our homeless and warming shelters are full, the electrical grid is somewhat delicate and people have lost power. And we're lucky compared to places in the Northeast as far as the snow goes. The sustained cold really has been a problem.

I was going to try to get an oil change on the car tomorrow, but that's not going to happen. On top of the snow issue, there's a whiteout possibility as winds whip up and blow the snow. I've already told A and YKWIA that I'm not coming over tomorrow, and that we can try to do the grocery run on Sunday. The main roads were dry this afternoon; but streets in residential areas such as mine are still packed snow with a glazing of ice on them as slush froze in the cold temperatures--another few inches, or even just one or two, will make it all the more difficult to get to those main roads, which are going to take a day or so to get clear again. While I was at their house earlier, I dropped off a DVD from Netflix so they can get cozy and watch it tomorrow while it snows. My plans are to catch up on a few things here. I didn't watch 'Grimm' tonight, for example, as I took a nap, but I recorded it and will watch tomorrow. And there's 'Downton Abbey' to consider. But there's also game notes and stuff around the house I can do. I also need to call Brenda to see is she can take me for some oral surgery that's coming up in a couple of weeks. I've got it set up so I can stay with friends afterwards so they can watch me for a few hours' afterwards and then I can drive home the next day.

Last night I filled up the fish tanks as they were getting low, especially the big one. I was a little worried about the heater blowing without enough water covering it. Besides, that's gets the fish squared away for awhile. I also changed the carbon filter in the big tank. I didn't realise it, but I'm out of the cartridges for the small one, and so I need to get a pack of those from Meijer's soon. I really want to vacuum the gravel out in both tanks; I may do that tomorrow if I can get it to work. Those self-starting vacuums never work well for me--I can never get them to start right--and I'm sure not going to try to do it by suction after I have oral surgery, so maybe now is a better time.

Physical therapy is going well and I'm already finding some relief with the pain and numbness in my arm. Tomorrow I'm going to do my exercises, since I'll have time, as well as maybe a little of those workout DVDs I ordered, if I can rearrange the living area nicely for more room. I have PT again on Monday, and then have my teeth cleaned on Tuesday. No word yet on whether we're playing the game or not on Sunday; that'll depend on the snow and Brenda, I suspect. Better to go ahead and do the notes tomorrow though, just in case.

Okay, I woke up around midnight for awhile, but I'm ready to go back to sleep. Have a good night, and stay safe and warm.

I have

negotiated a $50 discount on my Time Warner Cable bill. Tomorrow I'm going to stop by the YMCA and cancel my membership, saving $46 a month. I am also going to stop by T-Mobile and see if I can cancel my broadband for my tablet, which I used regularly when I was on the bus but now I could just use it on wi-fi, and save maybe $30 a month. The tablet itself is paid off, so I don't think there will be a problem. I have an unlimited data plan on my phone and so use it more for looking up things. I mostly use the data on my tablet for updates, which I can do through wi-fi instead. Also my phone plan comes with a 2.5 GB hotspot that I can use if I'm in a non-wi-fi area with the tablet.

So that could save $176 a month right there. My plan is to take my tax refund and pay off two low-balance credit cards so I don't have a monthly or at least have a minimal monthly payment. And Lane Bryant is definitely one of them. I got behind and owed a minimum balance of $39 after months of paying higher than the minimum. Comenity Bank was calling me maniacally on my cell phone today, at 8:30 am, 10:00 am, and 10:35 am. The last time was five minutes after I'd paid them $50, and I'd had to talk to a representative to get my web payment to go through correctly, so I'd already talked to someone, paid it, and not 5 minutes later, got another call. I politely told the man that 1) I'd just paid, 2) I would appreciate if he took my mobile phone number out of their system, as I was being bothered at work, and 3) no, I wasn't going to give him my work phone to be hounded with either. They could call my home phone--that's what it's there for, to catch things like confirming doctor's appointments or other business stuff in such a way that I am notified (I receive e-mails on my phone of the transcribed message immediately), yet without annoying me while I'm busy doing things like working. I won't say I'm going to cancel the card just yet, but I am going to pay the $250 I owe as quickly as I can so I don't have to deal with these people. Gee.

So if I pay off those cards, that would save an additional $150 or so a month, and that would give me a small net gain rather than the loss I've been operating at for months now. I should be able to pay my bills and have maybe a small amount to go into savings for things like car repairs and other emergencies. That's the plan, anyway, if I can stick to the budget I've drawn up. My expenses have gone up this past year. I went from spending $30 for transportation by bus each month to about $240 for gas and car insurance monthly. That's a big difference. And I will have to pay on the dental work, too, so I needed to make some adjustments, cause all these little bills do add up.

Okay, having worked out those sorts of things, it's time for bed. Tomorrow I have completely free to myself. My plans:
  1. Give blood.
  2. Watch Catching Fire in the theatre with my free ticket from work.
  3. Cancel my YMCA membership (I have to go in person).
  4. Try to see about eliminating the broadband fee for my tablet.
  5. Work on the book reviews.
  6. Clean house, including trash and laundry sorting.
  7. Talk with the leasing agent at my complex about the rent situation. I should have the money soon, but not necessarily in time before she files for eviction.
  8. Work on game notes, although we're not playing Sunday.
  9. Read.
  10. Make arrangements for a ride for my oral surgery.
  11. Get an overdue oil change.
Okay, good night!

It is very late

but I thought I'd take a few minutes to catch up with my blogging. Yesterday I had my first appointment at Aspen Dental here in Lexington, and I was quite impressed. They were very professional and seemed to really be on top of things. I hadn't been to the dentist for awhile, and things were not all that good. But we came up with a plan which will be less expensive and better for me in the long run. It does mean I'll have some oral surgery next month, as well as two crowns put on and partial dentures top and bottom. I guess my years of diet soda drinking have contributed to the problem. But even as a child I had trouble with my teeth no matter what I did to make things work okay. So in a way, I'm surprised I've gotten this far without complete dentures. Fortunately changing to the dental maintenance organisation, which is cheaper but has fewer in-network dentists, was a good move, because it has a richer range of benefits and will pay more than my old PPO plan (same insurance, just different types of plans). For the remainder we financed the dental work with one of those credit cards that work only for medical, dental, vision, and veterinary expenses. However, once I pay this off, I'll have it to use in case I need it, which is good with my insurance future in doubt once the hospital moves and I no longer have a library job.

Tonight I:
  1. Picked up a friend from work
  2. Helped make a lovely meal of black-eyed pea soup, mushroom and egg cooked in ramekins with a water bath, and a great salad of spinach, toasted walnuts, oranges, onion, and cucumber
  3. Ate said meal
  4. Watched 'American Horror Story: Coven', which only gets better as it goes along, and this had Stevie Nicks on it
  5. Got paid (Yay!)
  6. Got some things from the store for a friend and myself
  7. Came home and will crash soon
Tomorrow I need to:
  1. Take some library books and a CD to the library
  2. Pick up some books on hold there
  3. Get gas--my light is on
  4. Shelve new journals
  5. Request payment for several invoices that come due at the beginning of the year at work
  6. Do the regular things at work
  7. Watch 'The Big Bang Theory'
  8. Work on a couple of book reviews
  9. Work on the game notes
Okay, I can barely hold my eyes open. Good night!

Terrible, and I don't mean to be offensive, but there's something I don't understand

Hawaii girl, 3, dies after dental procedure
Finley's mother, Ashley Boyle, said she first took her daughter to the dentist in November, when she was told her daughter needed six fillings and four root canals, she said.
Why would a three year old need root canals? Granted, I don't know much about dentistry, but that seems odd. I mean, doesn't that kill the nerve there? And with a child that young, there's teeth below to still come up, right? Still, it's horrible that the girl died, whether from negligence or some freak occurrence.

I woke up this morning

with a horrible dream in which I went totally mad, waking up at 8:12 am (I have to be at work by 8:30.) I was a bit late, but I was a little ahead on my time so I think it will work out. Despite thinking it would be dreadfully dull on a light clinic day right after Christmas, it actually went fairly smoothly and I got a lot done. I was the only one in the library for the most part, as my office mates were gone. It was so quiet I could hear the copier in sleep mode from across the room. So I travelled around the hospital occasionally and played some music from my phone using a little speaker (it's called a Music Bullet) as I worked.

I chose a primary care dentist for my new DMO plan (it's like an HMO, only for dentists). Essentially, there are 34 dentists in our town who take the plan, many of them part of one practice. So I made that practice my PCD after calling and making an appointment. You see, on Christmas day I was eating a spring roll (yes, Chinese food, the one thing you can count to be open on Christmas, and Jin Jin is excellent). Anyway, a crown with the tooth inside came out of my mouth. Essentially it broke off at the gum line, meaning I'll probably have to have oral surgery, which is unfortunate to say the least. So I'm going to have them check out things and see what all needs to be done. The drawback to the DMO is the lack of participating providers/small pool of them. But there are two very good things, one being that it costs a mere $3 and some change per pay period, half of the PPO plan, and second, it doesn't have the limits that the PPO has, so if I need intensive stuff it will pay for it. It even partly covers adult orthodontia (which I don't really need at this point). The other doesn't. So I'm hoping I made the right choice in going with this plan. The appointment is safely after the new year, when my flexible spending account will be refilled, etc.
    After work today I:
  1. Went to the pharmacy, picked up a friend's medicine and paid for the medication they had put on hold for me when I couldn't pay before Christmas.
  2. Actually went to the YMCA and discovered a recumbent bike that I used for a short but good introductory workout. I hope to start going regularly and extending the amount of time, variety of activities, and level of speed, etc.
  3. Spent time with YKWIA and A, especially watching YouTube videos with YKWIA. I now know much more about apartments and customs of Japan, and unfortunately have watched an entire video devoted to bestiality in Colombia with donkeys. Yeah. I know. I think he takes a certain amount of pleasure in making my brain hurt.
  4. Stopped by Taco Bell on the way home and ate.
Now I'm home and I'm online enjoying what may be the last night of regular cable Internet. Tomorrow the plan is to take in the cable box and modem and cancel my service. Then I need to call and cancel my Vonage account because it piggybacks on the cable. That will save me nearly $180 a month right there. Instead, I'll use my phone as a hotspot with the laptop and if need be the TV and Roku box. The tablet has a data plan of its own, and the Kindle is 3G. If using the laptop or streaming videos exceeds the 2.5 GB limit I have on the hotspot, I think I can go up to 4 GB for just $10 more, still saving a lot compared to cable. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime. I have an antenna for the TV and get several network channels plus some nostalgia TV. I usually just watch the news at home, or maybe something like 'The Big Bang Theory', which is on CBS. I have a DVD/VCR recorder if I want to record something for later. I should be good to go.

Okay, getting sleepy. Hope you have a good night!

The crown is back on

This time they sent me home with a kit where I can put it back on myself, complete with a little diagramme. Apparently my abundant saliva plus the layout of my teeth may be an issue. She really suggested that I consider a partial denture on the other side since I can't afford implants. I will definitely look into it. I didn't think that was possible given the layout of my mouth, but it is.

I didn't feel like just standing at the nearest stop for twenty minutes, so I walked down to my normal one. I've walked quite a bit this morning. I'll get to work two and a half hours later than normal, but if this thing stays on till the permanent one strives, it will be worth it.

Waiting

Normally at this time on a Monday I have completed my commute by bus and am just about ready to get some breakfast before clocking into work. But today I have a call in to the dentist to try to work me in once they open; I've talked to one boss and left a message for the other. The crown is in a little baggie inside my backpack. I'm ready except for putting my shoes on. So now I'm sitting here, sipping some soda (which may be my last for a few hours at least) waiting for the dentist's office to call. This is becoming the Tooth Saga of 2012, and this is just the temporary crown.

Today should be busy without being crazy. I need to catch up on a few things from all the time I've missed due the dentist the last couple of days.

I suppose I could go check the news while I'm waiting....

No game today

as Brenda had an issue with both her regular glasses and the backup pair, making it difficult for her to drive from another county in to play. So I cleaned and then visited. I got in after a pseudo-storm (some wind, very little rain--most of it went around us, as usual, although the temperatures are thankfully falling) and I've been looking for a book that my friend read as a child. Ah, yes, the dreaded, 'I remember' quest all librarians are sent on from time to time, although thankfully he has an excellent memory, so hopefully we'll find it.

Tomorrow I'll have to go to the dentist for the third time to reattach that temporary crown. That's three workdays in a row. Unfortunately, I've already paid for and ordered the permanent crown, so there's no sense in going to another dentist. It's actually not the dentist who took the mould and made the temporary ones, but his assistant. Anyway, we'll see how tomorrow goes. I think I'm just going to call first thing and go straight there, rather than try to go into work and then waste time going back and forth on the bus.

Well, it's just now 9 o'clock. Despite getting up at 5:45 am, I'm not super tired. I think I'll read for awhile before going to bed.

Really?

Well, at least this time it didn't break in half. And I didn't swallow it. But the temporary crown popped off while I was eating...yes, again, crackers. This time it was pretzel chips. Not particularly hard, although yes, harder than the multi-grain club ones.

This is not boding well for when I get the permanent one.
