My computer will start a tune-up in three minutes, two, one...

So here's a brief post before going to bed.

On my mind today, January 28th

1986--I spent the day in shock watching the Challenger disaster over and over again; I still mourn those lost.

2000--The loss of my beloved grandfather, at peace after a long and terrible battle with emphysema.

2014--Was saddened to hear of the death of Pete Seeger, who lived his life by music and trying to make the world a better place.

Also had a great dental cleaning and picked up some donated books to take to the hospital where I work from a store halfway to the next town. Then spent time with YKWIA and A, and watched 'The Originals' and 'Supernatural'. Now it's time to go to bed. Good night.

Agenda for the week (when not at work)

• Monday: Appointment with the sleep doctor evaluating the new CPAP machine; run by pharmacy
• Tuesday: Take a friend to a medical appointment, celebrate Chanukah with him and fix him latkes, both the potato and cheese varieties; watch 'The Originals' and 'Supernatural' there
• Wednesday: 'The Tomorrow People' and 'American Horror Story: Coven' over at YKWIA's house
• Thursday: Downtime at home; watch 'Big Bang Theory'; do game notes
• Friday: Watch 'Grimm' with YKWIA
• Saturday: See Catching Fire; grocery run
• Sunday: Prepare for game; play Chthulhu game; 'Witches of East End'

I wish I'd recorded 'The Big Bang Theory' tonight

Not only did it have Bob Newhart and Bill Nye the Science Guy, it had some utterly great lines that I'd like to hear again. Here's hoping they get posted to YouTube on the show's channel.

So, that's over now. I need to decide what to do now. It's only 9 pm. Here are my options:

• Watch the DVD of Coraline, which I received from Netflix today
• Listen to Pandora, specifically some Loreena McKennitt, which I'm doing now
• Listen to the radio or some CDs
• Watch an episode of 'Downton Abbey'--I'm on the second season, and the fourth is starting in a couple of months
• Watch some 'Grimm' off the DVR--I have all but the pilot on there, and I should catch up
• Work on the game notes in anticipation of playing Sunday
• Read (I'm currently working on Confessions of a Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated by Alison Argrim, which has been quite good)
• Go to bed (but it's only 9 pm, although I'm a bit tired--I haven't been getting the normal amount of sleep of late (although it's been very good sleep with the new CPAP), and I didn't have enough insulin with me today so my blood sugar went up, which always makes me tired)

Which would you do, out of curiosity?

One of the reasons I didn't get enough sleep last night was because of watching 'American Horror Story: Coven'. I didn't get home till midnight, and it usually takes awhile to wind down after that show, which is both disturbing and excellent storytelling. Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates are particularly great. I've gone from watching the occasional run of 'Doctor Who' to several shows, mostly with YKWIA. There's:

1. Sunday: 'Witches of East End' [I have really bonded with the character of Ingrid Beauchamp, who is a librarian, among other things]
2. Tuesday: 'The Originals' and 'Supernatural' [of the latter, the Dog Dean Afternoon this week was much better than I thought it would be, I must admit]
3. Wednesday: 'The Tomorrow People' and 'American Horror Story: Coven' [the first I'm trying to give a chance, having loved the British series of that name as a child; the second is hand's down the best drama I'm watching at the moment]
4. Thursday: 'The Big Bang Theory' {I'm really not much into sitcoms, but this makes me laugh so much I'm surprised I don't pee myself] (that I usually watch on my own; I think YKWIA records 'The Vampire Diaries', which I've seen some of, but not a lot]
5. Friday: 'Grimm' [which I like, but haven't seen many of, yet]

I think this song would work well on 'Supernatural', assuming they haven't put it on there yet

Woo-whee!

Netflix finally added 'Supernatural' to their streaming video, which means I finally saw the end of season 5, and can catch up on the others I've missed (at least the first 6 seasons; I missed a lot of the early series). :) Yay!

For a fun start to the morning

Catch this clip of Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester on 'Supernatural', having fun with the song 'Eye of the Tiger' (I didn't embed it because I couldn't find a decent quality video that allowed it). YKWIA showed it to me yesterday and I laughed till I cried.

I feel a little like I dodged a bullet

The good news: my electric bill is paid. I thought I might not be able to, and I barely did.

The bad news: I have $10 and some change to my name until Thursday, and slightly over a quarter of a tank of gas. This should be an interesting week.

Fortunately I get paid at both jobs next week. The only thing that saved me this week is that we got our quarterly bonus at the store, so my cheque was much higher than usual, plus I've been working more.

Today feels strange because I'm only working 3-5 at the store, and not during the truck delivery, either, which I'm almost always there for. She has me working 3-5 most weekedays this coming week, except for Monday, where I have a couple of doctor's appointments.

One nice thing about this for tonight is that I can watch the premiere of 'Supernatural' over at a friend's. And I'm very excited about the return of 'Heroes' on Monday--again, I happened to be able to get off. Yay!

Okay, time to go to work, to get more money, to keep the necessities running. Hope to post soon.

Supernatural is great

(Don't worry, I didn't read the Wikipedia article, just linked to it.) :)

I don't get to watch it much because some of its ideas are being incorporated into our game, and it wouldn't do to have an extra advantage over the other players, but the two episodes I've seen have been excellent. Tonight the two brothers were pursuing a werewolf.

*SPOILER WARNING*






Sam (whom I think is the hottest and likable of the brothers) fell hard for a girl who turned out to be the werewolf. In the end, despite trying a cure, they weren't able to save her. She asked Sam to shoot her with the silver bullet himself, which he did. There was much crying that ensued, both by Sam and even Dean, and me. It was very sad. I was asked if I could do that. I think I could, but thankfully, as there are no werewolves to my knowledge, I don't have to really consider that. But what if the person you loved were killing others, and had no control over that? And what if they were a creature that you couldn't just call the police and hand over to? It was a good premiss.
