I loved it

'The Big Bang Theory' finale closes with a big dose of heart [contains spoilers] I have only watched 'Big Bang Theory' fairly hit-or-miss throughout its tenure, although I do have several seasons on DVD, and hope to complete my collection. I just don't watch much live television and don't have cable.TV. But...I do love the show. So it was a great delight and a little sadness last night to be over at one of our friend's housing eating Chinese food from Jin Jin and it came on. :)

Something men just won't ever understand

So it's 11:15 at night. You suddenly realise that your period is about to start. Yes, calendars can help, but are not perfect, especially when you are in the throes of perimenopause. (My app, which analyses my periods as I put them in, says I start in six days, and it's usually pretty close). Do I have any feminine products in the house? I do a quick search and find three pads. Enough so I don't have to rush out to the store and buy them tonight. This is also why women squirrel tampons and pads in their purses, their work desks, etc. Whew!

Or we could be like Sheldon.

Voilà! The costume was a hit, both at work, and afterwards....

With the Soft Kitty plush right after the kids came by for candy. I should have gotten a picture next to my skeleton, which is behind me.
Close up at my desk.

One of the fun things about working in a children's hospital

is that we dress up for Halloween and the kids trick or treat around the various offices. Since Halloween is Saturday, we're doing it tomorrow. So I am going as 'Soft Kitty' from 'The Big Bang Theory'. In fact, it's sort of purple Soft Kitty--one because I love purple, and two, because my soft kitty shirt is heathered purple with the grey striped soft kitty logo and the song written out on it. So the costume consists of:
  1. Soft Kitty T-shirt
  2. Long purple shirt under the t-shirt, like Sheldon wears
  3. Purple and black cat ears headband
  4. Purple pants
  5. Purple fake fur 'leg warmers' (elasticised at the knee, hanging down like bell bottoms)
  6. Purple fake fur tail
  7. Nose with cream blush, whiskers and kitty mouth drawn on with black body makeup
  8. The official Soft Kitty plush, which YKWIA gave me a few years ago, that plays the song when you squeeze its paw
I do wish I had a pair of purple socks to wear with my Mary Janes. But alas, I (surprisingly) do not. I do have purple snow boots, but they are a bit uncomfortable for being in all day, and my purple sandals won't work, either. But I think I've done well on a limited budget--I had everything except the cat ear headband, which was less than $3, and the faux fur items, which were free at work. (I also picked up a 25 cm long moustache they were giving away in recreational therapy, because you never know when that might come in handy, but didn't manage to work that into this costume. Maybe next year.) Tonight I need to see if my sewing kit includes a safety pin for the tail to go onto the pants, which I have to get out of the closet, where it's still put away with the winter things. I also found some cute (free) treat bags and holders that look like a blue monster, so I got some candy and I'm going to fix them up for my lunch buddies and my friends, and I found some (free) Happy Pumpkin Day cards to give them. Can you tell I love Halloween? I'll try to make sure I have a picture to post after all is said and done. The funny thing is I'm taking a friend to the doctor tomorrow afternoon and probably won't have a chance to change. :) Fortunately you can usually get away with a costume near Halloween.

Feeling somewhat better tonight

But I had a busy day at work, and later the company of friends and television to distract me. We watched two episodes of 'Scream Queens' on Hulu, the new 'Big Bang Theory', and 'Minority Report'--and YKWIA showed me something he'd been working on for the game, as well. Now I'm home, and my phone has already told me it's time to go to sleep, as tomorrow is one of the early days for the workweek. So even though I didn't write much, I'm going to go ahead and turn in. Good night!

For someone

Who does not normally watch television,  I am fairly committed this season:

Monday: 'The Big Bang Theory' and 'Minority Report'
Tuesday: 'iZombie'
Thursday:' Heroes Reborn'
Friday: 'Grimm'  (starting October 30th)

It would be Wednesday,  too,  but I'm too wussy for 'American Horror Story'.  And of course,  'Doctor Who'  is an issue with YKWIA,  who can't understand Peter Capaldi. So Saturday is more for Netflix,  like 'Lost Girl'  and 'Haven'. (YKWIA also won't watch SyFy due to how they spell their logo,  so we catch those shows on Netflix rather than cable.)  ;)

Okay,  good night!

Sad

Someone in my life and I aren't really close anymore. Once we were enmeshed, and it wasn't healthy. Now we see each other on some holidays and when either of us is having health issues. We talk occasionally on the phone. There are good reasons for the distance. But tonight, I received a phone call from her that really brought up a lot of emotions, mainly sadness and concern. They're pretty sure she has cancer, and she will be having a tumour removed next month from her liver; at that point, they'll know more about course of treatment. She already has several health issues, and this must be a blow to her emotionally as well. So tonight I'm feeling sad, concerned, and regretful that our relationship is such as it is, even though I know it's unrealistic to expect better. I love her, though. I don't want to lose her. I'm sad she's going to go through this.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes. The evening took strange turns tonight. I was reminded that I was supposed to dose the dogs for fleas, so I after 'Big Bang Theory', which was great, especially one of Sheldon's mom's lines--'When your idiot brother redeems others, he can marry whomever he wants', I went over there and dosed the dogs, gave one her pill with peanut butter and bread and the rest peanut butter on bread without the pill, cleaned her up a bit, and we were watching the premiere of 'Minority Report' when my mom called. It looks to be a good show, we liked it, so it probably will be cancelled. YKWIA is a bit like Sheldon, not particularly comforting, so afterwards he got A up out of bed (he works very early in the morning) and had him hug me. That was sweet, on both parts. But now I'm home, and away from the distractions of TV, and it's starting to hit me, not just the sadness but the fear of losing her. She's really the only family I have left in Kentucky, and we've shared a lot of life together. But, it must be much worse for her right now. Anyway, I'm going to go on to bed. Tomorrow is an early day, and I'll be in registration part of the morning. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers, if you don't mind, and thanks for doing so. Good night.

I am a danger to myself (but not so much others)

After coming home today, the first thing I did was put away yesterday's laundry, along with the cart, and put the hamper back in the bathroom to be filled again. Then I rested for awhile (I didn't actually go to sleep, but I was sleepy, so I laid down). Then I got up, vacuumed the whole apartment, dusted, did the mirrors, cleaned the bathroom sink and toilet, etc. It was nice to have a clean house, so I thought I'd light some incense and a candle to make it smell nice, and I dropped the match onto the tablecloth next to the candle, causing a small hole to burn through. Sigh. I am such a klutz.

But I got it lit without burning the place down. 'The Big Bang Theory' is coming on in a few minutes, and I'm going to watch it. It's one show I don't need cable for. I'm going to finish by baked potato and cheese and then turn it on. I'll probably write later, but if not (I might do some reading), have a good night!

This is what made me sad the other day

So this is the end of the finale of 'The Big Bang Theory' this season, so if you haven't seen it, and don't want a spoiler, don't watch. But it was so sad.

Today's post-work to-do list:

  1. Pay a bill.
  2. Go to the pharmacy for me and for someone else.
  3. Drop off the medication for the other person.
  4. Eat dinner.
  5. Check the news.
  6. Apply for a job.
  7. Watch 'The Big Bang Theory' season finale. I gasped and could have hugged him!
  8. Work on financial stuff.
  9. Work on the game notes, if there's time.
  10. Work on the apartment, if there's time.
I broke down today and used air conditioning in both the car and at home. It was 86 degrees and more humid than it had been. Welcome to spring summer!

One more post tonight

It was a good day. I got some things done I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. I got a little done on the house, but also applied for a job, got my car taken care of, got a nap in, watched a DVD, had some quiet time alone (and it was fun), then had a lovely dinner (thanks to a friend) from Gumbo Ya Ya, weathered a storm with hail that came up as I was travelling to get dinner, watched 'The Big Bang Theory' with my friends, and watched an episode of 'House of Anubis' with YKWIA, Now I'm home. The house still needs work, but I've run out of time on my 'free day', so I'll just have to work a little each day to get it nice and ready for company again. It shouldn't take too long; things aren't that bad. Tomorrow I have to get up very early because it's allergy shot day, so I go in early to work, and it's almost midnight, so I should head on to bed. Good night.

This was hilarious tonight--the mothers meet

I woke up at an ungodly hour

because I'd still had my phone set for my normal schedule. So I decided to sleep in till about 8:30, and my friend called me with a question and we chatted a bit on all sorts of topics, including my own experience with bullies, as I told him about the study. By that time it was almost time to get up, and I felt like I hadn't really slept in, so I went back to sleep till after 9:30, having a bizarre dream of a strange bed-and-breakfast with the cast of 'The Vicar of Dibley' running it. So now I'm eating burritos for breakfast and the idea is to go get some gas, go get my car registration renewed, stop by the library downtown, and then head back home. YKWIA informed me that I really should watch 'The Big Bang Theory' tonight, as both Leonard's and Sheldon's mothers will be on at the same time. Okay, let me go go check the news and then get ready to go. I'll write later.

Having some toast

with butter and blackberry spreadable fruit. I made some scrambled eggs over toast for YKWIA tonight, and it just looked great. I haven't had toast in awhile. In fact, for years I did not own a toaster, and I usually use it for bagels. But toasted bread is nice, too.

I came in pretty late last night, so I didn't blog. Wednesday morning I had an endocrinology appointment, then I went to a webcast on data management at UK in the afternoon, and took my friend to an appointment. We watched some syndicated 'Big Bang Theory' and then 'iZombie'. We are convinced that the latter will be cancelled because, well, we both like it, and that often happens to the shows we like. But it's pretty fun.

Today I had a visit from an outreach librarian with the Greater Midwest Region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine's office in Chicago. We met for about an hour and a half, and it was very nice. She was down for a conference and when I was up in Chicago we'd made arrangements for her to stop by. After work, I ran over to the pharmacy and then over to my friends' house, where I took one to get something he needed from the store. We visited for quite a while.

Tomorrow I have to be at work by 7:30 am, then I have to iron out an issue for a friend during lunch, and then I'll get off work early for my allergy shot. 'Grimm' is on tomorrow night.

Saturday is a trip to an appointment and a grocery run. Sunday will (hopefully) be the game, assuming Brenda is feeling better. At least I already have the game notes finished.

Okay, I think I'll check the news. YKWIA was telling me about a scientist who is asserting that Mars' condition is the result of a nuclear attack and that we are the Martians' descendants. Um...oh, dear. I should probably go look for myself. If I don't blog any more tonight (and I can tell it's almost time till sleep becomes imperative), have a good night.

The Big Bang Theory tonight

Made me cry.  It still makes me well up with tears when I think about it.  It was very fitting,  and I'm glad they chose this route.  But it was still sad.  I won't say anything more in case you haven't seen it yet.  But you frankly should try to see it. That's it for me tonight,  I think.  I'm listening to OneRepublic's Native album (specifically,  'I Lived' at the moment).  After that I think it's time to turn in for the night.  Take care,  stay safe. Good night.

Highlights of today

  • Work wsa a bit slow. Tomorrow should be a good day for things I don't normally have time for; a lecture is going on at the hospital, so no clinic or surgeries, hence not much in the way of data entry to do. Perhaps I'll finally get some of those boxes out of the library. I normally take off on this occasion, but simply don't have the personal time to do so this time.
  • Picked up my shoes and orthoses from the foot surgeon's office. I am now officially considered healed, being followed up on a yearly basis due to my diabetes, but the ankle/foot injury is officially in the past. Yay! And the new orthoses are soft and cushioned, and I think once I break them in they'll be much better for my feet, especially to start exercising by walking.
  • Took a friend and his dog to the vet and got her situated so hopefully she'll be feeling better.
  • Watched the second episode of 'Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries'.
  • Watched the holiday episode of 'The Big Bang Theory'
  • Watched most of The Princess and the Frog. It was actually better than I expected.
Now I'm home. I'd planned to clean house tonight but spent the evening with my friends instead. Oh, well. Tomorrow is another day. But I didn't take the Icy Hot with me today and I've been in a lot of pain all day, so I think I'm going to go into the bedroom, get comfy with the heating pad (good thing it turns off on its own after awhile), and maybe read for a bit. I've got to get up early and take a friend to work. :) Good night.

Awwww....

This is hands down the sweetest thing I've seen on television in years.
