It has almost been a month since I posted

I'm not sure why I dropped the ball on that.  I've been busy--I went back to work full-time on June 1st.  Then three weekends in a row we took down a honeysuckle hedge and then our friend Brenda came over and we chipper-shredded the resulting wood so Brenda could take it to her garden and spread it on the paths.  We've filled up the lawn waste receptacle two times with branches that were sawn because they were too big for the chipper-shredder.  There's about one more load.  But we got enough done so the mowers could mow.

So my weekends have been busy, too.  In fact, the only reason I'm writing now is that I'm home for a few days because at 12:37 am on Tuesday (Monday night), I tried to pick up something that had dropped off the bed (if you must know, it was a teddy bear).  I had my CPAP masque and a pair of headphones on and was teetering on the edge and trying not to lose the headphones or masque at the same time while trying to grab the stuffed animal.  And then I fell, with a very loud boom, onto the hardware floor.

Once I picked myself up, I was hurting all over and it was hard to tell what I'd done to myself, although my toes looked bruised pretty quickly and my foot and ankle hurt more than everything else.  I went to an urgent treatment centre for x-rays the next morning, first thing, and found out that I had broken my ankle (yes, again, but this time the left instead of the right, thankfully), a medial malleolar fracture (which is what I had on the right when I was hit by a car in 2012).  They gave me a lace-up brace and made me make an appointment with the doctor who did my ankle surgery back then.   They sent me home and didn't say anything about being non-weight-bearing, so while I've stayed off of it mostly and iced it for two days, I have put some weight on it. I had an appointment with my doctor today. I do have a fracture, but it's more like a chip on the bone, and he didn't think it warranted surgery.  I could go back to work Monday in a boot and since it's the left ankle, I can still drive and then take the shuttle with the boot on, which is much easier than if I'd had to have a walker or something.  I'm the only driver in the house, so it was important that I be able to drive.  However, he did want to get an MRI to make sure the deltoid ligament was okay, although he said it was a large ligament that was not likely to have torn.  He just wanted to rule that out.  So I should have an MRI sometime next week.  I'm off till Monday but I can go back, to the relief of my backup person at work, I'm sure.  My boss was relieved as well, I think.  Considering the last time I broke my ankle I was off for three months, this is really good news.  And yesterday I'd gone to my storage unit and got out my walker, my shower bench, and my old boot from the last time.  I couldn't find my cane, but I took the walker with me today in case they made me non-weight-bearing.  But I'm okay.  I just need a boot, and the boot I have is universal, not right or left, so I can use it, although I forgot how long it took me to get into it and how heavy it is.  But it's better than surgery.  And he said I shouldn't take a shower standing up but could use a shower bench, so it's good I pulled that out.  I've taken sink baths and washed my hair in the bathroom sink the last couple of days. I am definitely showering tomorrow!

Anyway, that's what's going on in my world.  Hope you're doing well.

Well, I am the proud renter of

a storage unit. I went with Space Center Storage over on Stone Road. I tried first over on Richmond Plaza, which is closer to my current apartment, but they showed me the 10'x10' unit and it simply wouldn't be big enough, but the 10'x15' would be, and they didn't have any climate-controlled ones available. Because the items I need to store include books, art, and furniture, it's important for the temperature and humidity to be controlled. I set it up so the monthly rental fee and insurance (required) come directly off my debit card, in case something happens and I might otherwise miss that date. I also got a heavy-duty lock from them. I almost got some boxes but decided to check out U-Haul and they have them much cheaper. I'm going to go over there in a little while and get some boxes and tape. Needless to say, those were on the list from last week, which got interrupted by appendicitis. So if I take what I had left, let's see what else there is [with a couple additions]. I'd like to complete all of this by tomorrow evening:
  1. Tour and rent a storage area for the move.
  2. Obtain or at least line up some boxes.
  3. Work on reducing/weeding books.
  4. Take out the trash and recyclables.
  5. Do some cleaning.
  6. Do some job hunting.
  7. Write up my notice for my apartment manager in preparation for the move, to be given on Sunday.
  8. Pay my COBRA bill so it's in time for August.
  9. Create a timeline/Gantt chart for the move.
  10. Finalise my list of what from each room will go to the house, and what will go into storage.
  11. Research movers, as neither my friends nor I, can handle the big stuff.
  12. Find a missing book from the library that is camouflaged among mine.
  13. Do laundry.
I did get a little rest, too, sleeping later than I planned today and taking a short nap later after coming back from the storage place. I haven't slept much this past week, we had an incredibly busy week (over 100 in clinic each day except Friday, and over 200 on the schedule for Wednesday). Next week is slower (yay!) and I'm off Friday for the delivery of the furniture over at YKWIA's. On Monday I have a phone interview from the University of Kentucky Medical Library for the nurse liaison librarian position I applied for in the spring. :) My boss is aware, and I'm going to have them call me on my lunch break.

Okay, I'd better pay my COBRA now (so there's time before the end of the month for it to credit), it was the main reason for getting onto the computer this afternoon, although I did want to blog, too. Then I'm going to go get those boxes and do some work on the apartment before running over to a friend's house to help him feed the animals and check on him since bending is not an option for him still. Have a good weekend!

I have been pretty busy lately

as I'm sure you can tell from my lack of posting. I've been staying up later but my evenings and the weekend have been pretty full of various errands, being with friends, or just trying to get some things accomplished, but I never got around to actually talking about them, I'm afraid. I actually missed a deadline for a job application with the Lexington Public Library the other day for a children's librarian at Northside yesterday because I was really tired late Sunday night when I got home, and I couldn't get myself out of bed early enough to work on it before work. So tonight, I got off work a little early (well, the original time I was supposed to work till, 4:30 pm), went to an appointment, and got out pretty quickly, by 5:35 (it was a 5:15 appointment, and I barely got to the car and there with just about three minutes to spare, so it worked out well). I was over in Beaumont for the appointment, and I needed to go to the credit union, and then I realised there is one in the area, so I didn't have to drive over to the university. Instead, I deposited a pay cheque at the credit union and then headed over to the Beaumont Branch of the Lexington Public Library to see what they may have. But I am a bit confused, as I see no new books at all, and I'm not sure where they keep them. I've found the regular books, the CDs, the 'Top Shelf' books, and the Holds, but no new books. I'll have to ask before I go. I'm sure it's glaringly obvious and I'm just not seeing it.

I am resisting the urge to go to another place down the street--Masala, the Indian restaurant I like very much. It's evening so I could order Peshwari naan (my favourite) and vegetable korma, which goes very well with it. But I have to admit, I do need to eat soon, and I am in the neighbourhood...perhaps I will at least check their dinner hours.

I think I'll download the recording from the game and maybe start on the notes--there was a lot of investigation this time, as we started a new adventure, this time a series of murders in Glasgow, Scotland. So I thought I should get an early start on the game notes.

Okay, I'll try to write later, but just in case, have a great evening.

Sorry I've been so sporadic lately

On Tuesday someone called in, and instead of working till 1 pm and going to pulmonary rehab, I cancelled my appointment and stayed till 5:30 pm. I wound up eating out of vending machines because I didn't bring my lunch. But by the time I got home at 8, after getting A and taking him home, I could barely drive, I was so tired. We had an extremely busy day, and were three people short. It is amazing to me how tired I get, even though it's not physically hard, but it's intense mental juggling, not only when you're trying to check someone out, but with all the follow up with so many people there is. So I was in bed Tuesday by 8:30 and slept and slept till it was time to do it all over again. I got up a little early this morning and took A to work and grabbed a few things at Kroger so I'd have breakfast and lunch today.

It was still busy today, but a steady busy where you're not pulled in too many directions at once. I had a headache again, but not as bad as Tuesday, when I felt my brains are about to leak out of my head. Things quieted down by 4 pm and I was able to catch up on phone calls and emails. After work I took A briefly somewhere and did a grocery run for a friend who hadn't slept for two days. Then I came home, ate, and slept from 8:30 pm to 1:30 am. I took my meds and now I'm heading back to bed, trying to get up a little early to deal with the trash and the recyclables, which are threatening to overtake things in my little apartment.

Okay, I'm going to sign off. Have a good night!

PS

Although my anxiety levels have been up due to actually starting the process of shutting down my library, and its immediacy without having another job in the works, all the activity I've been doing has actually been very good for me. I've kind of been bored in my library as of late. Now I feel like I'm actually accomplishing some things, and spending almost every moment doing something of value. That's got to be good for the soul. I need a job that will keep me busy and happy.

Well, that doesn't make sense

This morning I managed to make myself presentable in general but forgot to refill my pillbox with my oral meds, and while I had my potassium bottle with me, I did not have the diuretic that went with it, so I'm not supposed to take it. As expected, I swelled up like an overstuffed balloon, especially my ankle--and especially the one that was broken when I got hit by the car almost four years ago. What I don't get is I weighed myself this morning and, curious, was wondering how much water weight I'm keeping on me now that I'm as tight as a stuffed sausage--and I weigh two pounds less than this morning. I give up on trying to figure it all out.

Last night I got home at 11:30 pm after running many errands for others; tonight I got home at 11:30 pm after helping a friend with various things, including cooking. (I made pesto by hand, because the blender is somewhat dubious at the moment, with a mortar and pestle and lots of stirring) It was nice, however, that when I got out of the car, I looked up, knowing the Perseid meteor shower is going at peak, just in case, and a lovely shooting star went right across the sky, one big enough to make it through the light pollution here at what used to be at the edge of the city, but which is now merely outer Lexington. Yay! I forgot to make a wish, though. :) My main wish at that moment was to come in and get a shower--it's very humid out there, even now, and I've been sticky most of the day.

Today I rescheduled one appointment and then starting calling opticians around Lexington. See, last year I got an eye exam, but my blood sugar had been running high, and so when I wore the contacts and the glucose was back in the normal levels (as it usually is these days), things were blurry, so I've been wearing my glasses that are between 2-4 years old. But today I found out that it's not a revolving year; my benefits kick in each January. I can get new frames every other year, and new lenses every year, so I'm eligible now, even though it hasn't been a year since I got the contacts. I still have about $258 on my flexible spending card, too, so that should help. I usually spend some extra on my glasses than the insurance because I get progressive bifocals and (usually) Transitions lenses, which turn dark in daylight. However, a serious drawback to the Transitions lenses is even though they are good when you are walking around outside, they are absolutely useless when you're driving and it's sunny. See, the auto glass prevents the transition, but doesn't block out the UV enough to help protect your eyes from damage. What I need are sunglasses. But I don't want separate pairs of prescription glasses and prescription sunglasses. Years ago I had a pair that had a magnetic clip that affixed the sunglasses to the glasses frames. I called around to see if anyone still carried those. My normal optician stopped carrying them three years ago. I tried another in-network group, and they didn't, but they suggested their second location, and I hit pay dirt with them. I have an appointment on September 2nd, and am on the call list should there be cancellations between now and then. Yay, again!

Okay, it's after midnight. I am ready for bed. Tomorrow promises to be a fairly long day, too, as a friend has an appointment after work and then we were going to go over some bills. I'm going to try to finish the notes tomorrow during his appointment--I just got a start on them last time, but then we did a lot of visiting and not a lot of action, until the end, so it should go pretty quickly. Investigation is what really bogs me down in the notes, because of all the details. This was mostly interactions and then one of Brenda's characters was attacked by someone towards the end of the game and fought him off. So I might be able to get it all done in that hour-long appointment. If not, maybe I can do most of it and have a little of Saturday to finish up. We'll see. I'm glad we're playing again, though. Okay, good night for now. Hope you're having a good week.

Sorry I didn't post yesterday

I've been crazyily busy of late.  Thanksgiving exhausted me,  YKWIA had some issues and needed extra help, and we have seven appointments (mostly in the evening, thankfully) between us this week to go to.  My family member is back in the hospital,  this time at her local one,  although they are talking about sending her up here to Lexington at the University of Kentucky.

Things I'd like to get done this week between ail that include putting the Yule tree up,  watering all the plants in the apartment,  doing my laundry (I got it into the cart Sunday,  but left it at home accidentally).  I'd also like to go use the gym some more at the apartment complex. Oh,  and I need to put the stiff I pulled out of the closets back in. Just little things,  really,  but things I've been too tired to accomplish of late.  Oh,  and I need to schedule a CT scan because of something that cropped up on an x-ray.  I was going to go to a Web conference at UK tomorrow,  but something more urgent came up.  My head is just about spinning.  But hey,  I'll figure it all out,  and get what needs to be done finished.

In the meantime,  I applied for a job for which I am well-qualified.  Keep your fingers crossed for me. It's even another hospital librarian position,  similar to what I do now but at a larger institution,  administered by a university,  so it's a faculty position renewable yearly.  I would really love to get it. We'll see.  Wish me luck.

Also,  they posted the position of the woman I'm filling in for in scheduling.  I don't want to give up my librarian job,  which pays more than most of the clerical jobs in the hospital, (although the data entry job pays much less,  so it rounds down, and the result could be about the same as her position) just to have a position that would go to the new building. But I don't love scheduling.  I love being a librarian.  I'm not saying I wouldn't take a position outside of librarianship to make ends meet if we get down to the wire in terms of the elimination of my position,  but I'm not ready to give up on my library career yet.  :)

Okay,  I'm blogging on my phone,  and this is a long post for that.  Let me see how much damage autocorrect has done and wrap this up.  Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving!

Yesterday I was away from my phone for awhile

and when I returned, I had a text message saying a close relative was on life support. Another family member had called, asking for an update, and another e-mailed. I called the her husband, who texted me, got some details, and put my laundry that I had been doing at my friends' house, which was still damp or wet, into the car and went over to the University of Kentucky, to one of the ICUs in the hospital there for a couple of hours. I won't go into the particulars, but my family member is very, very sick. Today she is at least awake, although unable to talk due to the variety of tubes, including a ventilator, but is breathing on her own as well and hopefully will be off it soon. So there has been some improvement. But she'd still in pretty bad shape, and it was sad to watch her trying to communicate without being able to. I went over after work, getting caught in a traffic snarl when a procession for a paramedic from a local community who had been struck by a vehicle while on duty last week, and who has since died, was held to carry his body home, which I thought was a very sweet and moving thing to do, so it didn't matter to me that it took me 20 minutes to go one block to get to the hospital parking structure. I stayed till about 7, grabbing some food at the hospital cafeteria with her husband and stepson before I left. Then I came home and updated some other family members and spent awhile on the phone with YKWIA about what was going on. Anyway, it's been a rough couple of days, particularly for her.

Tomorrow evening I get a physical therapy evaluation for my neck and back, and there's appointments after work Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to take a friend to. I'm also trying to get ready for my Chicago trip next week, and working on that job application. Tomorrow I'm in scheduling for the morning and have a webconference for a meeting of a professional organisaton, the Kentucky Medical Library Association, in the afternoon, and then there's PT, so I'll most likely not be able to go visit after then. But her husband said he'd keep me posted.

I think I'll go do some reading and maybe listen to some music and wind down for the night. Tomorrow morning is an early day at work, so I'll turn in pretty soon. Good night.

Today we didn't play the game

Brenda was away on a Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) trip. I did my laundry, helped my friend clean his house, visited with him quite a bit, and then watched the following with another friend:
  • 'Lost Girl' ("Into the Dark"--the penultimate episode of season 2, which was excellent)
  • Tucker and Dale vs. Evil--I wasn't sure about this one, but watched it on YKWIA's recommendation. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
  • Clueless--yes, I had never seen it, and yes, I enjoyed it.
Now I'm home, and I think I'm going to take it easy before going to bed. I'm pretty much watched out as far as movies and television, and if I try to read at this point, I'll probably just fall asleep. Maybe I'll listen to some music. Good night--hope you had a great weekend. The upcoming week will be very busy--high clinic numbers during my scheduling days, two appointments to take a friend to, dressing up on Thursday for Halloween at work, and another friend's birthday to celebrate. So anyway, I'm glad I got a lot of rest this weekend--I'll need all the energy I can muster.

Busy, busy

Sorry I haven't blogged.  The last couple of days have been pretty busy.  But tomorrow I should be back on track and having a quiet night at home. So tune in then, and I'll have something more substantial to blog about,  hopefully.  In the meantime,  good night.

Oy, vey, what a day!

I:
  1. Got the results of my testing, got the names of a couple of authors to read, and it was suggested that I check out MENSA's resources for people who are gifted,  but who also have learning disabilities such as ADHD.
  2. Exchanged some medicine at the pharmacy that had been wrong for the one needed.
  3. Stopped at McDonald's for two cheese and egg biscuits.
  4. Picked up a friend and drove him on an errand to a city 25 miles away.
  5. Came back to Lexington.
  6. Took him by Long John Silver's so he could get lunch.
  7. Went to my ophthalmologist and had my eyes dilated, my pressure checked, and pictures of my optic nerve and retinal thickness taken. There was no sign of retinopathy or other issues from the diabetes, and my pressure is okay. I see him again in January, this time with a field of vision test.
  8. Went home, ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
  9. Got a friend from work and took him home.
  10. Went to class and taught our module on medications.
  11. Stopped by Taco Bell for dinner. Many traffic, street, and store lights were out. Not sure what caused the outage, but it doesn't seem to have happened here.
  12. Came home.
  13. Ate two plums. Now I'm ready to sleep.
Good night!

Still tired from the weekend a bit

And I just got home tonight from helping a friend with something.  Tomorrow I must get up early to take him to an appointment.  So I'm going on to bed.  I'll take the computer with me tomorrow and try to catch up on my blogging. Good night.

Saturday, September 06, 2014

I got up very early this morning

and took my car over to Tire Discounters at 8 am to get an oil change and the brakes looked at. I waited there while they did the oil change and the inspection. Unfortunately, I need pretty much all new rear brakes (the front ones had the shoes and rotors replaced in February, so they're fine--but the back even the drums are terribly rusty (they showed them to me), and even if they machined them, it would be outside specifications). So I'm getting those replaced after we haggled a bit on price. They found that my battery is at 50% and needs replacing, but I can't do that today--I'll try to before cold weather sets in. I love having a car, but maintenance, gas, and insurance make it much more expensive than the $30 I paid a month for a bus pass. On the other hand, I do a lot of running around that wouldn't be possible on the bus, and take friends who don't drive pretty much all over Lexington, too. So, it's worth it.

They brought me on home and are working on the car, which should take a couple of hours. They're going to come pick me up when it's ready. So I've finally eaten breakfast (veggie burger, let's call it brunch), and I'm contemplating working on the house. I haven't been home much, which tends to mean I destroy any sense of tidiness in the house, and I come in, put things down on the kitchen table or the loveseat and they just sit there. I really need to clean the bathroom, wash dishes, take out the trash--and more importantly, the recyclables, which are threatening to escape their container, straighten up in general, put some things away, sweep, vacuum, and mop. I can't do all that in two hours. Hopefully I can get started on it, though.

Sorry I didn't blog last night. I'd taken a friend to an appointment after work, watched an episode of 'Haven', and then headed home, where I ate something and kind of putzed around for a bit, listened to some music, and went on to bed early since I knew I couldn't sleep in today. On the other hand, I don't have game notes to do today, as they are already finished, woo-hoo! So there's the grocery run, 'Doctor Who', and as far as I know, that's about it, unless YKWIA and A have something else planned. Tomorrow is the game, and 'Witches of East End'. Then we'll go back into the work week, and start everything over again. This week was particularly busy because there was a lot going on at work, no less than four appointments I had to be at, and bills to pay. Also, it seems to me that whenever we have a 'short week' after a holiday, we try to scrunch everything from a normal week into less days. Next week there's not quite as much going on, thankfully. I think the last time I came directly home from work was Monday before last, and then I just pretty much crashed. I'll try to take this Monday and work on anything I don't get finished today, until I'm happy living in my apartment again. :)

Despite only about five hours' sleep

I was extremely productive and perky, getting a report in, discussing a speaking engagement with someone in the mobile technology industry, filling interlibrary loans, filling the clinic's cart of children's books, organising the library, shelving the new journals, shelving the journals and books, plus all the stuff I do for the data entry position as well. I got so much accomplished on what I thought would be a slow day that I found by 3:30 I was pretty much finished with everything that needed to be accomplished this week, and rather than start on a new project (in this case, cataloguing or referrals beyond ten days out), I asked my boss if it was okay if I could leave a little early. Today's a friend's birthday, you see, and I was going over to spend time with him. I got out of there about 3:45 and picked a few things up at Kroger's, and then we watched a couple of episodes of 'Haven' and visited for awhile. What I did do, unfortunately, was leave some of my medication locked in my desk drawer at work, so tomorrow I'll need to stop by and get that. Then we'll go out to Masala for their lunch buffet. Yum, Indian food! Of course, 'Doctor Who' is tomorrow, as well. I also need to finish the game notes from a couple of weeks ago. Now I'm getting a quick bite to eat (mmm...tomatoes), and then I'm going to head on to bed, as I have been up and bouncy for far too long and I can feel my gears running down. Good night! Have a safe and happy holiday weekend! (Note to self, do not go to work on Monday, as it is Labour Day).

An even quicker note

To say,  yes,  I am alive and well.  Between work and after work things I have been very busy,  and the one day I've been home I crashed to sleep by 7 pm without blogging at all.  I just got home and it's almost 11:30 pm.  So I am going to go on to bed.  But I will try to catch up tomorrow and over the weekend. Thanks for your patience.

Bleh. I'm awake.

I was helping a friend look some things up on the Internet last night and got to a point where sitting in the chair really hurt, and we were basically finished and I went on home, took some ibuprofen and a small bit of muscle relaxant, and I was out for the night. I didn't manage to get up early and work on the notes (and we are playing). But I got up early enough to have some veggie sausage, some Greek yoghurt, and an apple (a big breakfast for me, especially on a weekend). I have a lot to do with my friends today, so I thought I should power up. :) I also have a lot of laundry to do over there, so I'm going to go get ready and put that in the car. Hope you have a good weekend!

What a busy day!

Listening to Of Monsters and Men, 'Dirty Paws'

Today I:
  1. Woke up and wasn't groggy; morning blood sugar was only 145!
  2. Went into work early
  3. Worked half a day
  4. Took a friend to an appointment
  5. Got my insulin and pen needles from the pharmacy
  6. Took my friend to pick up something that he'd ordered
  7. Ate dinner with him
  8. Took him to the grocery; also got glucose tablets and alcohol pads for me
  9. Watched 'H2O: Just Add Water', an episode from season 3
  10. Watched the first episode of 'Fringe'
  11. Came home just now and am listening to music and relaxing after all that running around

I have spent a lot of the last 48 hours in doctor's appointments

Yesterday I went to the endocrinologist. She wants me to lose 30 lbs. I weigh more than I ever have, at 305 lbs, but some of that is water weight due to insulin's tendency to kind of swell you up, she said. She put me on two medications, one of which I had never heard of. It's only been on the market since March of 2013. Both tend to help with losing weight. One makes you more sensitive to insulin, and the other helps clear the glucose out of your blood and kidneys. Ideally, as I lose weight, I should be able to dial back on the insulin. Wish me luck.

Today I was at our family doctor with a friend for three and a half hours. The plan had been to get to work about noon and work a half day. I got there at 2:15. But I managed to do everything I needed to in a small amount of time, even though it was a bit hectic for awhile. Then I went to the pharmacy and got my medication (they had ordered them yesterday, as they weren't in their inventory) and over to my friends' house for a bit. We were both tired from the day at the doctor. So I went home a little before dark. Then I texted with another friend for awhile, and got up on the bed with the idea of lying there for only half an hour or so and then getting up and watching something on DVD or Netflix. Turns out I went straight to sleep, and woke up just now, at about 2:30 am. I finally gave my libation (it's a bit late) and ate a little cheese.

Tomorrow there's getting my rent, the farmer's market, the grocery, and a run to Lowe's, plus watching the last two episodes of season 2 of 'H2O: Just Add Water'. Also there are game notes to do. And I've asked to do laundry at my friends' house. It will be easier on my back than doing it here. And I need to finish assignment three for that PubMed class. So tomorrow will be fairly busy. This whole week has been extremely busy; I've gotten a lot accomplished, at least.

Okay, I think I'm going to go to back to bed. Have a good night.

So Wednesday's the day

I go back to work. In between that and now there's the game, and a visit with family. I have a tentative ride to work (I have to check back, as my co-worker is fighting off something that has her sounding about three octaves lower in her throat) and in the meantime my physical therapist suggested I do timed walking over the next few days in case I really need to walk .44 miles to the bus stop and cross the road twice (because that worked ever so well the last time I tried to do that).

Let me just say I work with some pretty amazing people. I have received cards, letters, e-mails, texts, and phone calls from people checking up on me. My door is full of get well and holiday cards--twenty-three in all, and a nice letter that came in the mail in response to some thank yous I sent. I've received some really nice gifts that came in very useful and helped cheer me up. I even had co-workers doing my laundry. But most of all, I suppose, is that I realised people cared. I always wondered what would happen if I suddenly wasn't in the world anymore, if anyone other than my really close friends or family would really care. What I discovered is I have many people in my life who care a lot. It makes me feel good about myself and the connexions I make with other people.

On the other hand, it's so weird to basically miss a quarter of a year from my routine. It'll be a little odd going back. My desk still has Halloween decorations on it. Thanks to my roommate in the library, my plants are apparently doing fine, which is good. But being back in my little cubicle will be interesting. I hate to think how much e-mail I'll have, although most of it is pretty moot and can be deleted. I don't even remember my Windows password--I'll probably have to have IT reset my password since it will force a change the first time I log on. There have been some changes in how my work is done that were supposed to start the Monday after I was hit, so the woman doing that part of my job is going to have to teach me what to do. I understood it at the time, but really don't remember the process now. But I'll hopefully be able to ease back into things.

Plus next week I have to see about getting into physical therapy and starting that. Right now I'm slowly walking in a shoe while I'm in the house, using a borrowed cane (we're going to check for one I can buy at Rite Aid tomorrow). I'll need to return the walker to the friend who lent it to me. The suggestion has been to wear the boot at work, though, since there will be more walking.

I hope I can do everything I need to do in the coming week. I suspect I'm going to come home and crash. But that's no different than it used to be. :) Hopefully I'll build up some stamina, though.

For now, though, my back is hurting a bit today and I've been at the computer much of the day. I think I'll go lie down and listen to some music for awhile. This will be my last day in my little cubby-hole of an apartment for awhile. Each day coming up through Friday pretty much has planned outings lasting most of the day. And at some point I'm going to have to do some more laundry. I have just enough to get me through next Friday. Right now I'm not sure if it would be best to do that at my mom's or my friend's, or actually try to take my cart to the laundry room and try to negotiate the steps. They're a little steep--I'm not sure I'm up to it. We'll see.

9:10-9:45 Discover convener is delayed; return to desk, deal with copier issues
9:45-12:00 Meet with brief five-minute break to deal with copier techs; I apparently had the secret method of resetting the machine that customers aren't supposed to know

12:40-1:00 Dealt with phone call regarding referral

5:00-5:15 Got a ride to my friends' house
5:15-8:05 Spent time there; watched two Kim Possible cartoons, took care of something important, fixed coffee, and general visited for a little longer than I meant to do to a storm
8:05-8:22 Waited for the bus
8:22-9:40 On buses home, very crowded and one with a crazy man with no underwear and pants to the ground
9:40-9:55 Walked home, stopped by laundry room for drink
9:55-10:00 Informed one friend I'd been texting on the bus ride that I was home, and let the one set of friends whose house I'd left know via phone call
10:00-10:15 Fixed and ate cheesy tortillas while blogging

Which brings us to now. I am home. I am tired. I am happy to have air conditioning. It can rain with abandon now if it likes (well, I'd rather not have crippling storms or floods). Hopefully I will be able to catch up on my other work tomorrow.
