This is interesting

Click here for an unemployment map of the United States

It's interactive.  You can click on a county (or search for one) and it will tell you the unemployment rate for August 2009, August 2008 (for comparison), and a graph showing the unemployment trends since 1990.   For my own county:

Unemployment, Aug. 2009: 8.2%
Unemployment, Aug. 2008: 5.1%

Population: 282,114

The highest unemployment in the country is El Centro, California, at 28.7%.  Wow. Ours is much lower, but that's still a significant increase.  Thanks to Occasion2B for sharing.
