So, it took awhile, but my computer is now up and running again. I had to format/partition the drive and re-install the OS. Last night it refused to work; it just kept hanging throughout the XP run-through. Today I stripped the BIOS-recognised hardware down to the basics and then partitioned the drive with a smaller section to install Windows, and everything went fine. Now I'm just putting the rest of the programs back on. :) Yippee!!!
