I have gone to two clinics in the area--one at a major university and one run by the government--on several occasions, although thankfully not as a patient, and something really frightens me.
They can't do math when dispensing medications. Medications, incidentally, that, if wrong, don't just cause you to have minor problems, but could literally mess with your central nervous system to the point of causing death. It isn't a problem with one person. Or just one time. It's nearly every time. It's been several different people, most of which have been degree-holding doctors. It bothers me that they would just be, okay, here you go, and probably document it and everything, but if you try to tell them it's not enough, they just don't get it. I mean, I know I can't do anything more complex than two digits in my head, but you better believe I'd take a calculator (or even better, a PDA) around with me if I were dispensing meds. Grrrr. I mean, I know most meds go through the pharmacy, and they don't really have to do this all the time, but still, it's not rocket science.
Okay, rant over.
