Thank you, Library of Congress

Lewis Carroll's Scrapbook Goes Online

The dichotomy between Lewis Carroll and the man behind the pen name--Charles Dodgson is a fascinating one. For many, he is a beloved author of a classic children's tale. For others, he is a supreme wit whose logic and math puzzles delight. Most saw him as a stammering, shy man, an intellectual. Many characterise him as some sort of virginal paedophile, due to his seeming obsession with young girls. (For an article devoted to puncturing the simplistic myth of Lewis Carroll, click here.) Regardless of how he is viewed, he is a figure subject to much speculation and scholarship, who knew eminent people of his time, and so this scrapbook, arranged by his own hand, will help researchers who might not be able to travel to the library learn more about him.
