Not much to say about my Sunday

I listened to a lot of music.  I checked on YKWIA and helped him with something, but he's got a bad case of the crud, and he had to go on to bed for awhile, so I came back and listened to a lot more music.  I'll probably need to take him to the doctor tomorrow.  I picked A up from work at midnight.  A man approached me, probably wanting money, and I just shook my head and motioned him on without putting down my window.  I won't say I live in total fear of being attacked as a woman, but when you see a woman sitting in a car alone, it's probably not best to approach her, because a prudent woman is not going to engage you in any way.  Just saying.  Anyway, A showed up right after that and I took him home.  Then I came on home and got online to check for an e-mail for him regarding a job interview he had on Friday.  Now I'm going to go to bed.  Terribly uneventful, I'm afraid, but sometimes that's good.  And I got plenty of rest, although I should have been a little more proactive in getting some things done, really.  But, hey, it's the weekend, it's for recharging, right?

Just had a nice bubble bath

and managed to complete all the things I planned on doing tonight--reading, watching a DVD, listening to some music, adding water to the fish tanks, and watering the plants. I also gave myself a manicure and pedicure, and I'm going to put some lotion on, so it's sort of a spa night. Once my hair dries a bit, I think I'm going to go on to bed. I'm going to close the windows and head in there right after having some ice water, and listen to some soft music until I drift off. I hope you've had a nice weekend. Good night.

Tired

Okay, I did have to get up earlier than usual to take a friend to an appointment—my alarms were going off at 5 am and beyond, and I finally got up at 6. One of the women I eat with at lunch had a birthday, so I had some birthday cake, so my blood sugar went up, so that may be it, too. And it was a busy weekend, so I guess if you factor it all together, I shouldn’t be surprised.

Over the weekend I:
  1. Took a friend to an appointment on Friday evening, during the snow.
  2. Watched the first half of the UK-South Carolina basketball game with A on Saturday.
  3. Went on the weekly grocery run with A.
  4. Watched Doctor Doolittle (the original, with Rex Harrison, which came out the year I was born) with YKWIA. I loved it. It had very good points about animal welfare and vegetarianism, along with race relations, especially given its time.
  5. Helped straighten up my friend’s library and shelved books. I really should put it on my résumé—his library is actually bigger than mine at work, at least in terms of number of books, I find information for him, and I do everything a librarian would do for a patron.
  6. Played a little Moon Tycoon.
  7. Worked on the game notes.
  8. Cleaned house for our roleplaying game on Sunday.
  9. Played the Call of Cthulhu game.
Yesterday after work I went to the pharmacy, made some food for YKWIA, and helped him with a monthly project. We also watched an episode of ‘Hart of Dixie’ and some YouTube videos. I got home about 10 pm and pretty much went straight to bed, although the frustration of trying to embed the last post’s video made me get back up and get the computer rather than my phone. So I think I made it to sleep about midnight, didn’t sleep well (although a little better than Saturday night), and woke up feeling tired this morning.

So tonight I’m at home. Things I need to do over the rest of the week outside of work:
  1. Go get a certified letter from the post office (not happening tonight—besides, I think it’s not available until tomorrow since they tried to deliver it today. That may be Thursday, Friday, or even the weekend. They won’t send it back till February.)
  2. Call my student loan servicer and discuss my options.
  3. Go to the pharmacy. They didn’t have my insulin in stock the other day when I was there. That will probably be Thursday. They’re closed right now, though.
  4. Go over my class materials tonight in preparation for tomorrow’s class.
  5. Work on the game notes (that I will try to do tonight).
  6. Go through some 14-day books from the library and do some reading.
  7. Get some real rest tonight.
  8. Go to an ear, nose, and throat doctor on Friday morning that my primary care physician referred me to.
The question is, dare I lie down for a bit and take a nap, or will it mean wasting the whole night? Maybe I'll play a little Moon Tycoon (it's a simulation game where you build moon bases) to relax and go from there. But I am going to go take off my bra and take out my contacts, etc., and get comfy.

'Oh, no! I've killed it!'

So I came home from helping a friend put up his Christmas tree only to find my little Yule tree lying on the floor, with most of its dirt spilled out of the pot, looking like a sad little Charlie Brown tree indeed. I righted it, and decided that I will deal with it in good time, but not right at this moment. Poor thing. I'm not entirely sure I can save it. It lost a lot of soil, although it didn't break or anything when it fell. But man, it's messy. I really must take care of that as soon as possible, though, as it is on carpet. Thankfully it's not damp soil.

Today I went to my family practice and saw both the doctor and the physicians assistant, and despite the fact that the Sharpie ink came right off in the shower, I did explain the anxiety situation, and was prescribed a low dose of Buspar and referred to a behavioural health practice which is across town but in my insurance network. So that should help.

Tomorrow will be very busy. I need to:
  1. Straighten up the house early in the morning, as they're coming to inspect the appliances and it's a wreck
  2. Pick up the Buspar from the pharmacy
  3. Run by the library before they open and give in some books
  4. Go to the bank
  5. Pay my rent
  6. Buy a small Secret Santa gift
  7. Find some holiday cards
  8. Look fora belt (I've had one for almost three decades, where the loop has come off. the belt has stretched beyond its original dimensions to the point where I'm putting the tongue through the braid and not the holes of the strap, and tucking the tip under the strap instead)
  9. Get lights and go through some ornaments for the larger, artificial tree A gave me
  10. Put up the tree and decorate it
  11. Watch 'Grimm' with YKWIA
Oh, and we're not playing the game Sunday as Brenda has another commitment. I'm not sure what I'm doing Saturday. I still haven't seen Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part I, and I have a free movie ticket and a voucher for a small drink and popcorn for free. Hmmm....

So, I totally failed to blog this weekend

Sorry about that. It was a very busy one, filled with ice, Christmas trees, and the Cthulhu game. I stayed home on Friday due to the impending ice and snow, which turned out to not be too bad at all. On Saturday I went and got my insulin from the pharmacy, picked up a book at the library, put another on hold, and then went over to a friend's to help him put up his tree. I wasn't particularly enthused, as I'd already decorated both at home and at work, and his tree takes awhile to put up, because it's one of those that you put each branch into a slot, whereas at home my tree is a small potted one, and the one at work just comes out of the box, you put it in its stand, and fluff. I'd been in a great mood and holiday spirit about a week or so ago, but PMS robbed me of it and some issues I'm trying to resolve, and so I've been grumpy anyway. Plus I've been in pain--my tendonitis is back in my elbow and shoulder, and it's my dominant arm, so it really hurts pretty much when I move it. His tree always seems to wind up being an all day thing, and this was no exception, but in the end I wound up enjoying myself. But I knew it was important for him to get it up, so I went over there. It turns out that two of the light strings had burned out. So we went in search of replacements, going to Meijer and Target looking for a purple strand and an amber strand. We were able to find purple ones at Target, but had no luck with the amber ones. Going online, we determined that the nearest Lowe's that had them in-stock, for example, was in Georgetown, a town in another county. I tried several others and finally determined that K-Mart did have them--in strands of 35 lights. So we went out again, and got three strands. Then it was time to do the tree. It's absolutely beautiful in purple and gold, especially with the lights down. Anyway, I got home a little after ten, I think, tried to work on the game notes, and didn't have much luck because I was on the laptop and it kept trying to update various things and scan. I finally went to bed, got up in the middle of the night, did the notes, and went back to bed for a bit. When I got up, I didn't have much time before I was supposed to be back over there, so I forewent a shower, dressed in comfy clothes, and went out to tackle the ice on my car, which was nearly a quarter of an inch, I estimate. Then I very carefully drove over there in the ice. Normally I would have just stayed home, but the freezing rain and sleet was supposed to last till about noon and then turn to rain, melting a bit of what had accumulated, so I figured Brenda would be in for the game, and I needed to prep the house first and figured, why wait until more ice had accumulated and there'd be no preparation time at all. Plus I was taking one of my friends to Joseph-Beth for holiday cards, too. So I braved it. There was the prep, a brief interlude where I was tortured with 'Barbie: Life in the Dream House', Joseph-Beth (whose holiday card selection has sadly deteriorated), the game, and then home about 10 pm (there was no 'Witches of East End' last night, and to bed.

Even going pretty much straight to bed, I was hurting all over and didn't sleep well, and overslept a bit as I was just so loathe to leave the bed this morning. I set five alarms every night, including a gentle one that plays happy sounds before turning into an alarm and one with a rooster sound that then talks to me, and usually one will get me going. Not so much today. I've hurt all day, especially my arm, even with ibuprofen, and I just haven't felt well. I finished an audit today that I needed to, took care of some referral things, and designed a department holiday card, but that was about it. Since I was about fifteen minutes late this morning, I stayed late to make up the difference. Now I'm home. I've eaten. I think I'm going to take some more pain reliever and find my heating pad. Then if I can get to feeling better, there's some things to do around the house. That's the plan, anyway. We'll see how that goes.

Oh, I'm so happy it is Friday

and the great cable upgrade is, indeed, finished, although the new outlet isn't completely turned on yet (I get the programme guide, and a notice saying the channel will be available shortly--for all channels). But most importantly, I can put everything back, or actually, re-arrange the living room as I like--which I plan to start in the morning.

I just got back from watching 'Grimm' with YKWIA and spending some time over there visiting. We had a good night. Tommorow we have a couple of projects, the grocery run, and maybe, if I can get everything back together, we can watch The Blues Brothers over here. That would be really great. It means that my morning is definitely going to be busy. If I can't get everything back tomorrow, there's Sunday, as Brenda has a doll meet, I believe, so there's no game.

It has been a productive, yet tiring, week, and I'm glad to finally be home where I can snuggle up in bed and get some rest. I went by Kroger earlier for snacks and got a power strip for the bedroom (I'd used one in there for the living room when I moved the computer and lamp over), so I can plug in the TV, RF modulator, and Roku box. I'm also going to put a little DVD player I won as a door prize years ago back there, so I can watch DVDs. But I think what I'm going to do soon is put on Pandora back there, kick up my feet, and enjoy some music for awhile, although I might do a little work in the living room first. At any rate, hope you have a good night. Once I get things back in order, I'll post a picture. :)

It's been a pretty decent day off

although I slept a bit much at the end, so now I'm awake. It's back to work tomorrow morning, of course. I did buy a dress for my friend's vow renewal, online, and he loves it. I just hope it looks as nice on me, especially now that I've got the super short hair.

My bathroom is full of the hand washables, which are almost dry. They're on a rack in the bathtub and hanging from the shower towel rack and curtain rod. I had the fan on in there earlier to help. The rest of the laundry is folded and still needs to be put away; but it's neatly in a hamper for tonight. I did go ahead and hang a shirt that wrinkles easily.

I did some stuff around the house and once the chores were done, watched a little 'Doctor Who' and listened to some music. I spoke with A on the phone for awhile and texted back and forth with Brandon. I napped twice, once in the middle of the day and once about 8:30. So all in all it was a quiet day, but it was nice. I love being in a clean apartment. I think I should go ahead and water the plants inside today; the umbrella plant looks a bit dry. Then I'll do some reading before bed; that's the only thing I had planned to do that I haven't today. I hope you had a nice weekend as well. Good night.

It's beautiful and sunny

and I've had a great day. It started early, with an 8 am appointment with my ankle surgeon. That went well. The x-rays show everything is doing great, although he was concerned by the swelling, which is happening on both ankles, even early in the day, although worse on the one that was broken. He suggested compression stockings, so I got those, and having my family doctor prescribe a diuretic, which I will do. Work was nice. I got many compliments on the new haircut (which does look better than in the picture; I'm just not photogenic). My roommate in the library kept saying it made my eyes 'pop'. I know what she means, but having the perverse sense of humour that I do, I kept visualising eyeballs popping out of my skull. :) After work I went in the rain to my last session (at least for now) of physical therapy, graduated from the programme, and got a shirt. Then I came home, watered the plants outside, and settled down to some yoghurt and fruit, plus a little cheese. I have a free evening and I'm all for relaxing in my nice, clean home and celebrating a really nice day.

Tomorrow it's work and then over to a friend's to help with something. Saturday's a visit with family. Sunday and Monday are free at the moment; we're not playing the game because the other player will be away for the weekend. I should probably work on the game notes sometime during all that, though. :) I want to catch up on 'Doctor Who' and do some reading, plus spend some time with friends. It'll also be a bit cooler this weekend, so I hope it's pretty pleasant.

I've been listening to an Ed Sheeran album that I got the other day, and I've told you about the two songs on the radio, 'The A Team' and 'Lego House' (Yes, that's Rupert Grint [Ronald Weasley] as the obsessive fan in the video). I think my favourite song on the record is actually 'Small Bump'. Like 'The A Team', it seems sweet and happy, a father's song about a baby-to-be, imagining holding the infant, and it's fine until the very end, when a miscarriage shatters the dream. It's very sad. Here is the video:

I didn't realise that it had been so long

Since I updated here. It's been a very long and busy weekend, and I am very tired. I just want to go on to bed now. I will try to post tomorrow after I get some rest. Hope your weekend was great. Lastly, happy birthday to my cousin Jan. I don't know if she reads this blog, but just in case, happy 50th.

Having some spotty Internet issues using Chrome

and I'm not sure why. Tried IE 10 and it's a little spotty, too. Firefox is working better, but sometimes defaulting to a graphics-poor version of things. Not quite sure what's going on. Maybe Insight's having issues. The connexion tests okay, and I've reset the modem and routers a couple of times. The phone's on and so is the cable TV. I paid my bill. What gives?

Today I received both my AAA and car insurance cards. Oddly enough, I never got the temporary AAA card they were supposed to send me. I also got the papers for both the car insurance and renter's insurance that explains what's covered.

After work today I went and picked up a friend from an appointment and we went to Long John Silver's (his choice; I was all up for tofu goodness from Great Wall, but he was craving some fish, and that was fine with me) and then I took him home and stayed just a bit before coming home. My foot and knees were very uncomfortable and I really needed some Tylenol and some elevating. No major swelling, mind you, and the knees were really more painful than the ankle and foot, but they got better when I went to bed for awhile.

I'm so glad it's Friday. This seems to just have been an endless week. I have a lot on my plate this weekend as well. Tomorrow I have an eye appointment in the morning. Then I'm going to try to get all the trash and recyclables out of the house. The recyclables have been piling up for most of the time I've been out. I did have someone take some of them out at some point, but there's quite a bit to go. First I wasn't able to do it, then it rained for days and days. Tomorrow the weather's supposed to be fairly nice, so I want to go ahead and get that done. Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to take a friend to the grocery. Sunday we're not playing the game because Brenda has a doll meet (she makes clothes for ball-jointed dolls), so I'm going to do laundry and work on a friend's computer then.

Okay, I think I'm going to head to bed and then just see tomorrow if my connexion issues have resolved. Hope you have a great weekend.

Saturday and Sunday were crazy busy

so I didn't blog, didn't watch 'Doctor Who' (even though it was the mid-season 'finale'), and didn't get much on my agenda done. I did spend some time with friends and did laundry on Saturday, so that got done, although I schlepped it across town and back (thank goodness for my little utility cart). Sunday was the cleaning, the Kroger run, and the game, which features an extremely difficult opponent and ended with Brenda and I begging to stop so we could regroup and think up something to deal with it, as we were becoming frustrated with our lack of progress, and several characters were incapacitated or near death. Afterwards the game master and I had a very good yet painful discussion on how I might be able to increase my effectiveness (my character was in charge), not only in the game, but in real life, by tackling a particular fault I have.

Last night I was awoken about 2 am by a dog barking furiously, something that in the eight years I've been here just doesn't happen. There's not much noise in my complex, there's a firewall between my bedroom and the next apartment, and I actually ventured outside to see if there was a dog in distress, it was just so unusual, and it sounded just like a friend's dog (for non-'animal people', each dog has a 'voice' of their own). I'm sure it was just a neighbour's dog. But it was a little difficult to get back to sleep.

Despite getting to bed at a reasonable hour, I'm having some difficulty with just how dark it is when I wake up, particularly on a day such as today, which was a soggy, rainy mess. I was not a zombie today. I went in and got a lot accomplished, including the book review I needed to get in.

Thankfully I was able to get a ride home, and I opened the windows and then promptly took a nap. (Not a sleep, but a reasonable nap. I find that if I lie down right after getting home, while the afternoon is not too late, I am much more likely to wake up and be productive later, rather than the scenario where I do things, play on the computer, and then peter out by 8:30 or 9 pm.) Now I have to get some things done around the house and if I have time, I'll watch the first of two 'Doctor Who' episodes I need to catch up with.

By the way, I meant to write the other day that as I stood at the bus stop Thursday, I was accompanied by a pretty orange butterfly who spent the entire 20-25 minutes in one place, fanning its wings (I think it was drying off; we'd had some rain.) I love butterflies (Eilir actually means butterfly), and it was nice to see one up close for such a protracted time. That is one nice thing about being a paedestrian rather than a driver; you get to see the details along the road.

I'm feeling decent tonight

The weekend was busy, but not horribly so. On Saturday I got some groceries and a friend picked me up at Kroger and took me to another friend's house, so it was nice to visit with them, and I helped with a project and was treated to two excellent episodes of 'Lark Rise to Candleford'. Saturday night I got home about 8:30 and then still had to do notes, but the nice thing was there was a lot of action, which shrinks the amount of work compared to investigation, because I don't put in combat blow by blow.

Sunday I didn't have to get up quite so early because I'd gone to the store the day before. I got everything ready for the game and still had time to visit. The game was a conclusion to an adventure which was somewhat frustrating as we weren't able to save a lot of innocents (and that was my fault), but otherwise was satisfying. It's always interesting when you have a battle which includes Bigfeet, small ancient resurrected hominids, and a crazy Miskatonic professor. Oh, and last time was the family of Deliverance cultists who apparently owned the barn from Twister with all the sharp, pointy farm implements. And it's nice when you have an anti-bullet/anti-metal spell and then realise oh, yeah, not only can the bad guy not shoot you, but your companion with a so-so gun skill can't hit any of you either. :) Okay, maybe you had to be there. I got home about 10 and was in bed by 10:30.

Today I made quite a bit of progress on my to-do list, which was nice. I even got a little ahead on one project. So if the rest of the week goes as well, I'll be happy.

It was nice to get home and the air conditioning's on. I don't normally put it on so early, but it was 81 degrees today.

Okay, time to check the news and take care of some things. Have a good week.

Sorry I haven't written

It was a very busy weekend, followed by work and heading back over to a friend's house tonight to help with something (three days in a row over there). So I haven't been home, and I was having trouble copying and pasting URLs into the post code on the tablet for links, which defeated the purpose of trying to blog about things I'd seen online.

Anyway, I'm back. Hope you had a good weekend.

Doing some late Sunday night laundry

to get ready for an exciting week, of which I'll write more later. My, it's been a busy weekend. Today alone I woke up at 4 am, after much snoozing of the alarm, did some game preparation till about 5:20, got on the first bus, did much housework for someone, helped someone put up a Christmas tree (it's quite lovely, in purple and gold), went on a major grocery run, and played in the Cthulhu game until almost 10 pm. Fortunately I've had a whole two-litre of soda to perk up. But I must admit, I'm ready for bed and it's just almost time to take the clothes out of the wash and put them into the dryer. So no sleeping until about 1:30 or so.

Tomorrow I need to leave by 7:30 to make it to a committee meeting in time. I'm looking forward to meeting a fellow librarian I've been conversing with for almost 15 years, but whom I have never met in person. Turns out she's retiring soon, and this is probably our last chance to get together, so that should be fun.

Came across this photo today

I was three years old, and apparently quite taken with flowers even then.

Today has been a little, well, odd. On the one hand, several things happened that made me feel good emotionally. On the other, I've been physically feeling a bit blah, with my stomach a little touchy and my blood sugar elevated. My appointment is next week, so maybe we can take care of the high glucose, which has been a problem ever since they stopped my oral meds. But hey, it's Monday, what could I possibly expect? I did eat very healthy for the most part (I did have an ice cream treat midway through the day, and I suppose that blows healthy eating all to hell).

The weekend went well. I schlepped up and down Richmond Road getting lots of errands done Saturday, then got up early Sunday (5 am), went to Kroger, went over to prepare for the game (clean house), and then played the game until about 10:30 at night. I was so tired when I got home, and my blood sugar was even worse yesterday, and my insulin pen ran out of medicine; I didn't realise how low it was and didn't have another one me. So I'm surprised I was coherent at all. I did fairly well early in the day but kind of slid as it progressed.

It's been a quiet night. I meant to do laundry, but didn't manage to make myself do it. I'm going to try to wake up early so I'm not up late doing it. I have physical therapy at 7:30, and so I'll have to get up at 5 or 5:30 to get it done.

I went outside just a little while for something and the air is alive with the sounds of insects and the hum of air conditioners. It's been hot, but not nearly as bad as the last couple of weeks. Tomorrow it may get up to 96, but without the treacherous humidity spiking the heat index. I feel so sorry for the folks in the Midwest who are in triple digits. In the summer of 1980 I lived in Kansas when we had over 60 days of over 100 degrees temperature. It was awful. My mom cooked on a hibachi in her swimsuit to keep the house cool. People were dropping like flies and people who were elderly or shut ins were checked on and given fans or air conditioners if needed. Thank goodness for air conditioning and the electricity to run it.

I've been taking a class on mobile resources in libraries and sat down today to do the second segment, then went back to the first and watched the videos, which included histories of the PDA, the mobile phone, and mobile computing. I had to watch the videos, ironically enough, on my phone because YouTube is (understandably, I suppose) blocked at work. The class runs till October, I think, and so far has been very interesting.

I sat down and really planned out what I need to accomplish in the library this week. One of the things is to tackle an area of withdrawn books and general I-don't-know-where-to-put-this stuff on shelves so that I can get it looking better, remove old manuals that people might think are up-to-date, clear up some room for my binders on my desk, and make room for some children's books (I have a medical library, but I oversee an early literacy project in the clinic as well) that are currently under and next to my desk. It's the only area of the library that is questionable in terms of being in order. I've recently straightened up my storage cabinet, my storage bins, and desk, so it seems a good time to do that.

Okay, if I'm going to get up really early, I should try to go to sleep now. Have a good night.

Monday, December 13, 2010

As you may have guessed

I was home early today, mainly because a rather huge clinic dwindled to nothing because of the snow. I'm not sure what the official accumulation was, but it looked like 2-3" here, with drifts up to my mid-calf (I went through several of those this morning.) But in other parts of the region we service, it was worse (Ohio, West Virginia, Kentukcy, Tennesee, and Indiana). So we had a lot of cancellations. Cancellations meant fewer things for me to enter at the end of the day. One of my co-workers gave me a ride home about 4:15.

Santa came to the hospital today, which we'd especially arranged to have on a Monday due to the planned outpatient census, but of course there were much fewer kids than expected. Still, they were all great, he and his entourage. He normally brings horses and carriages, but couldn't this year due to the snow in his area. He's been coming to the hospital for a couple of decades, I think, and it was great that he made sure the kids got to meet him and get a present. I just wish more kids had been able to come.

Because Fayette County Schools were out, we were treated at lunch to lots of young snowsledders going down the hill in front of the cafeteria. They come from all over the city to sled down our hill.

The buses were on a snow plan this morning. I didn't realise this meant that the Richmond Road bus headed to Wal-Mart (opposite of its normal run) as part of the plan. I knew we wouldn't make the Idle Hour loop. Fortunately both my origin and destination points are on the snow route. For those of you in Lexington new to the buses, you can check to see if your stop is on the snow route by seeing if it has a snow flake on it. I feel sorry for those people living in Idle Hour; they have to walk out of their neighbourhood to catch the bus, but I understand that with all the turns and secondary roads, that it's an issue.

We're about to have a major deep freeze weather-wise. Right now it's 17 degrees but feels like 3 (that's Fahrenheit). Tonight's low will be 10. You may want to drip your pipes if you're in the area.

My father's likely having bigger issues. He lives in Minnesota (we're estranged, so I haven't spoken to him), and they're getting dumped on majorly with temps in the double digit minuses. They raise horses, so that's another concern. I would not like to live there. I know they're used to cold winters, but that seems worse even for them. Even their stadium roof (made of inflatable Teflon) collapsed due to 20 inches of snow.

We've had almost that here before since I've been back in Kentucky, and it wasn't pretty. The cold and snow are coming much earlier than we usually see (it doesn't usually accumulate snow until after Christmas here). So I'm hoping this is not a taste of the winter to come.

On a different subject, I had some fun this weekend. I helped a friend put up his Christmas tree (in tasteful purple and gold). I watched The Sorcerer's Apprentice with another friend (which was quite frankly surprisingly good and fun), and then there was the game, where we started (eek!) a campaign. Campaigns are either long adventures involving different places or collections of related stories that take you often across the world. They are miserable things to deal with, and yet we keep coming back for more. Our last campaign took us from the US to Tonga, the Sudan, Louisiana, Virginia, etc. The one before that took nearly two years of actual weekly game time to complete (that's the largest campaign put out by Chaosium--Beyond the Mountains of Madness). On the other hand we get more experience on campaigns, and I have one poor character that has an insanely low Aura due to the last campaign, when she was attacked by magical poisonous vipers.

Yep. This really is a fun hobby. Really. :)

I got off from work early today

because I already had my hours in for the pay period, which is good, because I have a 2:15 podiatry appointment, then I have some other things to do running around town. I couldn't make physical therapy appointments for next week because he was booked up when I wasn't working, but I have a couple the first week of August. My first appointment went rather well, mostly assessment. To give you an idea of how my elbow is affecting things, I can grip 65 lbs with my left hand when my arm is stretched out, and only 45 lbs on my right, which is bad because my right should be stronger because it's dominant.

I'm glad the weekend is here. I do work tomorrow, but not a 10-hour shift, and I think I get off at 6 pm, which leaves some time to do other things.

I've been happily starring items in Google Reader to share with you. Some have already made it to the box at the top of this page, but I'd like to write about them, so I hope to post some tonight, depending on when I get home. Last night it was 4:30 am before I came in, and I had to get up at 9 am, so it's a little iffy in predicting.

Okay, I'm going to go now. Hope you have a good weekend.

A busy weekend, as usual

I pretty much do the same thing each weekend--I work 10 hours or so on Saturday, then prepare for the game on Sunday, then play the game, then put the notes from the game into the computer. But it's been a productive weekend, one which has been helped by making up for my sleep deficit over the week and banking a little more for the days coming up. Monday between the two jobs I'll work 14 hours; Tuesday will be 13. Wednesday I'll be off from both but only because I need to go to court. I don't know about Thursday and Friday yet. We have a new guy training at the gas station. Hopefully he'll work out and I'll be able to go back to my normal hours, although I have to admit, the pay's been nice lately. I don't know, though. One of the girls sent him back with a list to get cartons of cigarettes and he came out with single packs that he'd taken from various cartons--then put the cartons back so there was no telling where the packs came from. That was a pretty colossal error, and he was terribly embarrassed. Hopefully he'll do better, though.

I just wanted to touch base before I went to sleep for a couple of hours till a friend calls me for a ride home from work. Tomorrow will be such a long day I don't know if I'll get a chance to post. So, I'll give you a link now:

Triage to save rare books

I don't know how long it will stay active. Basically a pipe burst down at Lexington Public Library (the main branch) and did a number on some biographies (which could be pitched), but more importantly, the Kentucky Room, which has rare items. So the library closed and the various staff worked to save the damaged books and papers. It was on the front page of the Herald-Leader the other day. I thought that was nice, especially as the main coverage we as librarians have been getting in the paper lately has to do with the 'scrotum' fiasco. I did blog about that, didn't I? I think so.

Anything else? Oh, yes, this--so appropriate, really:

I am Azathoth!

Known as the "Blind Idiot God", the center of all cycles known as Azathoth is the great void itself, infinite creation and inescapable oblivion made one. The Great God is without ego, as it has been embodied in a seperate consciousness as Azathoth has cast off the curse of self-awareness. Surrounded by the host of flautist servitors, piping the songs of the unknowable, Azathoth is not to be known by his aspirants. That is the purpose of another God...

Which Great Old One are you?

It was the minions thing. I want flautist minions. Although I rather thought I might wind up as Nyarlothotep or Yog Sothoth (the latter of which turned out to not be a choice, disappointingly). Oh, and be sure to check out http://www.yog-sothoth.com/ for news about the Call of Cthulhu gaming system, if you're interested. Anyway, enjoy the quiz. 'Night!
