Today isn't just my special day; it's also a special day for children everywhere

because of it being International Children's Book Day, which incidentally began the year I was born. Maybe I was meant to be a librarian just because of that. I have a wonderful poster sent to me by Laura Mueller, a fellow librarian in our hospital system, from a few years ago, commemorating the day. That day was chosen because it is also the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen, one of my favourite children's authors. My favourite of his stories, as most people who know me would guess, is 'The Ugly Duckling'.

I think I'll re-read a few of his stories from my collection tonight. He was such an odd man who had such difficulty relating to adults. I have difficulty relating to children more so than adults, and did even as a child, so I sort of understand where he was coming from.
