Had a wonderful time this evening

I took YKWIA to an appointment near my home and we stopped by my apartment for him to see what I've accomplished. He hasn't been in my apartment for about seven years, except very briefly when bringing me home from the hospital after my ankle surgery in October. The last time he was in my apartment before that, he could barely breathe, and he's seen my house in other places much, much worse than it was this time--and it took me nearly five weeks to do the de-hoarding. So, I was nervous, and he had some trepidation, too, I suspect.

With the exception of a couple of small things he asked me about (the Bookcrossing books I'd left in a small box in a corner of the bedroom, the fair job I did vacuuming under the computer desk, where the wires are), he was, I think surprised and pleased. He said that while the house still had a lot of clutter, it really reflected my personality. At least the clutter was fairly orderly. He could breathe, saying the house smelled a bit like lavender. And he said he'd like to come over again and we could do things again over at my house, which is great.

Afterwards, we celebrated with a salmon meal from Texas Roadhouse. We ate and visited over at his place along with A, and then we watched an 'Ultraman' episode. By this time, it was about 8:30, so I headed home, happy from the pleasant meal, conversation, and passing the test with the house. My gas light came on (that's the lowest I'd let the gas get since I got the car), so I stopped by the gas station on the way home. I got back around 9, texted with Brandon for a little while with my feet up in front of the fan in the bedroom (I've been hot for a couple of days now, even using a fan at work). We were discussing our day and also the tragic tornado hitting Moore, Oklahoma. I hadn't had a chance to really look at the news story, and so when I saw things like the elementary school that was hit, etc., it was very sobering. Having lived in the Midwest, I know you try to prepare for this sort of thing, that it's a hazard of being there, but still.... After awhile, around 10 pm, I fell asleep and woke a little while ago thinking it was much later in the night--it's only 1 am and so I've been asleep for three hours. I had thought about watching an episode of 'Doctor Who' earlier. It's a bit late, now, as I have to get up about 7 or 7:30.

Tomorrow I need to go to physical therapy (I think this will be my last week; I'm doing much better). I also need to sit down and pay some bills and that sort of thing. Wednesday I hope to go to the YMCA and finally start using my membership, maybe get into the pool. The pool here at the apartment complex is almost ready and will open this weekend, most likely. It usually does, although Friday is supposed to be back down around 70, so I'm not sure how warm it will be. It's definitely warm and muggy outside now.

Saw something on Facebook this morning that made me feel old. The last episode of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' aired ten years ago today. Yes, really.

I'm having some ice water right now. In a little while I'll go back to sleep. I may listen to some music in the interim. I bought two CDs from Amazon that should be here Wednesday, but of course they had the Autorip feature so they're already on my phone in .mp3 form. It's Ed Sheeran's + and Pink's Greatest Hits...So Far. The Sheeran one I bought because I'd listened to 'The A Team' and 'Lego House' and really liked them. They had upbeat music, nice voice work, etc. I had been listening to 'The A Team' for awhile, had the music in my head, and then one day I really started paying attention to the lyrics (I'm usually quicker than that, and my listening experience is very lyrics-driven). I love how Sheeran has juxtaposed such dark material with the upbeat music. 'The A Team' is a traditional lyrical ballad that refers to Class A drugs in Britain, and the story is of a young woman who prostitutes herself due to an addiction to crack cocaine. It's a little subtle, and sad, as well. The Pink album is a collection of most of her hits (except the current 'Give Me Just a Reason'), and I really love her music. For relaxing in the evening, I'd say Sheeran is the way to go--Pink is more invigourating, he's more relaxing, although like I said, 'A Team' in particular is very sad:

and plan to. But the essay has some good points about the similarity between the two shows and how Supernatural could continue after the season 5 sacrifice. (Something I still haven't actually seen). I so need to see them on DVD.

Why Supernatural season 6 was kind of like Buffy season 6

I don't think they did a musical, though, like Buffy. That would be very interesting.

I forgot how much I like Buffy

I'm watching Buffy: The Vampire Slayer on LOGO. [Okay, there's spoilers coming, but my God, if you haven't watched it yet, you've obviously been off at the edge of the world.] It's that part of the series where they're up against Glory, Buffy's mom just got diagnosed with a brain tumour, and Anya just pointed out to Giles that he was stupid for selling two items, including an amulet together. 'But those spells were lost ages ago, and besides, the young woman to whom I sold them to would have to have immense power...oh.'

Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog:



It was directed by Joss Whedon (of 'Buffy: the Vampire Slayer' fame). Neil Patrick Harris (best known from 'Doogie Howser, MD') plays evil genius, monologuer, and future overlord Dr Horrible. Felicia Day (who played one of the potential Slayers on the last season of Buffy and stars in and produces The Guild) plays Dr Horrible's crush Penny. Nathan Fillion plays Captain Hammer, Dr Horrible's self-absorbed nemesis. Did I mention it's a musical? Enjoy!

Willow and Wesley are having a baby :)

Okay, not really. Alyson Hannigan (Willow from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer) and her husband Alexis Denisof, who was a Watcher, Wesley, in both Buffy and its spin-off, Angel, are expecting. Congrats to the couple. :)

I found out why Felicia Day from 'The Guild' looks so familiar. She was one of the potential Slayers (Vi) in the last season of 'Buffy: the Vampire Slayer'.

Vi is a Potential Slayer who arrives in Sunnydale in the seventh season, and is played by Felicia Day. Vi was trained by her Watcher prior to her arrival in Sunnydale, but her experience with the supernatural amounts to seeing a blurry photograph of a vampire. Introduced in the episode, "Showtime", the timid Vi initially seems unfit for her calling. However, she proves to be a courageous fighter during several battles, including the final battle in the Hellmouth. She survives it and, though having been wounded herself, helps treat other wounded such as Rona and Robin Wood in the aftermath. She appears in the comic story "The Chain", starring alongside Andrew Wells in a television commercial informing recently activated Slayers about the Watchers' Council.

If you haven't seen 'The Guild', you really should, especially if you have any interest in gaming online or off, because you'll be more likely to get the jokes. It's up to episode 7 and they just keep getting better and better.

The week in review

I've really been remiss in my blogging this week, mainly because I keep coming home and crashing straight into the recliner or the bed.

So here's a recap:

Last Saturday

Pretty much what I do most Saturdays, work 10 hours and did some notes for the game.

Sunday

It was just the game master, Margaret, and I. We played until 11 pm (we start around 1 pm). It was mostly introducing Margaret's new character into play but we're also starting a new case. There were copious notes that took several days to actually transcribe.

Monday

Cerys startled a couple of snakes near the back of the apartment building, but she didn't notice. I don't think her eyesight is what it once was. It was a very productive day at work (and I got to learn how to unjam the colour copier), and I only had to work 3-5 at the gas station, leaving me some time to do things like go to the gym (the first time since June). Then I stopped by Subway and turned in my points from my card to get a free combo meal. Yay, free food! Then I napped for about an hour and then worked on notes. That night I checked my e-mail and someone from the Bob and Sheri show had noticed my mention in regards to the Al Yankovic song, so they're sending me some free CDs. Yay, I love their show! So it was the day of free stuff.

Tuesday

Again, productive and only a two hour shift at the gas station. I didn't go to the gym again, but I did do a little at the house and took a nap. Then it was off to do notes. My friend whom I get most nights from work surprised me by getting a ride home either Monday or Tuesday, so I didn't have to go back out. That was nice.

Wednesday

Again, productive and a two hour shift. I wound up visiting for hours with someone I knew from the comic store (several of us worked at a really great comic store until the owner sold the store to an evil get, at which point all but one employee walked out). I worked there nearly a year, doing all sorts of librarian-like things (dealing with vendors, doing databases, dealing with serials, checking in orders, etc.) It (and the former owner's glowing recommendation) was a large part in getting my current job. Anyway, this person is doing well. He's recently remarried to a woman who seems to be wonderful. He has two small kids, works at a pharmacy, and makes leather masques on his off hours and takes them to Renaissance faires to sell. It was nice to catch up with him. I still regret missing his wedding (I had to work) because everyone dressed up in garb.

Thursday

Was very sloooow in the library. It was payday, so that was nice. Then I worked from 3-9 on truck night at the gas station, which flew by pretty quickly. Then it was off to do notes.

Friday

Was wonderful--and the weather was beautiful, if a little cool--except for dealing with the traffic school saga. I took off work from both jobs ostensibly to do my taxes, do a little around the house, deal with traffic school and student loans, and take my dog to the vet. Well, I did solve (hopefully) the traffic school issues. I did get to sleep in till about 11 am, which was nice. I could have done more at the house and I still need to do the final submission of my taxes, although the taxes themselves have been calculated, so it won't take long to finish. I should have gone to the gym again. Instead I set aside some time for errands and then took Cerys to the vet. Her heart is good for her age; her stomach felt good. She did nip the vet when he tried to draw blood, although she didn't get him; he just had a little saliva on his hand. Dr Vice was very patient and good with her. He agreed that she doesn't see that well and it sounds like she's gotten a little senile, with some of her personality changes, the fact that she doesn't recognise my friends, and she wanders in unfamiliar areas (she kept pacing the exam room in circles, for instance). Her heartworm was negative. He clipped her claws, which desperately needed it (she won't let me near her feet). We muzzled her for that, and that distracted her pretty well. He only quicked her once, which was good since they'd gotten so long. Her main issues were tapeworms (he gave me a de-wormer) and itchiness/dermatitis left over from when she had fleas (she doesn't have any now, but she reacts horribly to them and loses quite a bit of hair off her butt). He gave her a cortisone shot and an antibiotic to take for two weeks to take care of any secondary infection there may be. Plus, she got her annual shots and licence taken care of. It all cost $187, less than I thought it would (my former vet, the one who held my cats cremains hostage until my bill was paid, would have probably charged $300, running lots of bloodwork, etc.) Dr Vice agreed that with her being 16 I probably have a year or two at most, but that's what I think, too (for that matter, it's what I thought last year). But she's holding up pretty well for her age. Still, I have to admit every time I come into the house and go find her on the bed I check to make sure she's breathing. It's a sad thing, but inevitable, I suppose. She's been such a good dog, a wonderful companion. I hope the medicine makes her more comfortable. Next month I'll get flea and heartworm medicine.

Today

I worked my 10 hours and did notes, since I didn't do them Wednesday (I try to do them six days a week in an attempt to progress with the project. It's usually an hour or two a day). It was rainy and nasty all day. Hooters next door to the gas station had a bikini contest; I felt sorry for the girls--they were outside in a tent, but we were also a bit snarky, since none of us would be seen dead in a bikini. We were pretty busy. My mother left a message on my voicemail on my cell phone to check the one at home. I misunderstood that it was my e-mail I was suppposed to check, and worried that something might be wrong. But when I checked for messages on my home phone she had left one telling me about a job in the Danville paper, 25 hours per week at a local business college (they actually have one here in Lexington, too, so it may be in Danville or may be at another campus).

I've also been listening to (and watching on YouTube the musical episode of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' this week. I love that episode, and I have the CD. If you haven't listened to or seen it, you should.

Which brings us to now, when it's nearly 1 am and it's definitely time for me to go to bed. Hope your week went well.
