Oh, one last thing before I do that

Years ago we had a 50s Day at work, and I had a couple of interesting pictures to share. The first is of me with a Clinical Symposia journal with an exploding nuclear bomb on the cover, which is really from the early 60s, but I tried:

The second I waited to share until I was sure it was okay per company policy, as someone else is in the picture, but since the face isn't shown, it was okay. We had a hula hoop contest. I didn't win--but I did have fun. Those were the days:

Time for bed

It occurred to me that I meant to leave work early tomorrow afternoon so I can get my allergy shots, so I need to go in early. That means suspending some of the fun tonight and going on to bed. I did get quite a bit done. The laundry (and DVD) will have to wait till Saturday (tomorrow night is 'Grimm', so I'll be over at YKWIA's). I'm going to try to get up earlier than even the normal early time and go over to the gym in the morning (I do better about working out in the morning than evening, although I'm not a morning person, so it's harder to get up for that). I just checked out the two books to my Kindle, so I have two weeks to read. By then the new Eastside Library Branch will also be up and running. Yay! Anyway, I'm going to log off of here and transfer the phone and Kindle (now both fully charged) to the bedroom, where I may read before bed, although truthfully I think I'm too tired. I suspect even if I put on a half-hour of music I wouldn't make it through the first song. Good night.

Home fairly early

I got through a good portion of my to-do list today at work, mostly the priority things, and then took a friend to an appointment after work. I like that the appointments can go until late--even 7 pm sometimes. That's five appointments between the two of us this week, which is pretty extreme and unusual. Wednesday I took off because I had two, and then we did some other things as well, and this one was after normal work hours, so I just missed a little. But this is why I usually keep maybe three days of PTO on tap, when I get four weeks of PTO each year. :)

So now I'm home and while I should do game notes, I am really more interested in doing just about anything else; I can work on them in the morning. Tomorrow I also need to pay my rent and go to the library for a couple of books I have on hold, then head over to my friends' house and do an errand or two for them.

But right now I think I will get off the computer and do something fun. Good night.

Yay! I'm off work tomorrow and I have lots of stuff planned (subject to change, of course)

Things I have to do sometime either tonight or tomorrow:
  1. Two weeks’ of game notes.
  2. A book review.
  3. Straighten up the bedroom.
  4. Sort laundry.
  5. Give a libation of honey to Hekate for the turning of the year.
  6. Water the plants.
  7. Fill the fish tanks and work on the pumps for each.
    Things I’d like to do:
  1. Read.
  2. Watch some DVDs (including ‘Downton Abbey’, which I am terribly behind on.
  3. Listen to some music.
  4. Have a quiet evening at home.
  5. Watch the New York ball drop at midnight tonight, either on my phone (yes, there’s an application for that), or on TV.
No alcohol, parties, etc., but then I don't like to be out on the roads with the drunks on New Year's Eve. Happy New Year! May it be bright and wonderful and bring you happiness and blessings. It's so hard to believe we're just a few hours from 2015!

Let's see if I can embed this video from Facebook :)

Good to know they can still have fun even with all the pressures where they live. (And if course, it's 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight', not 'The Lion King Song', but I won't quibble.)

Enough of that

I have (finally) gotten up, showered, put clothes on that are regular outside clothes, and I've done a foray to the gas station for caffeine. I have sprayed down my wet shower with Kaboom. And I've put the radio on (right now it's 'Demons' by Imagine Dragons). So, the idea is to actually stay up and do some things, both housework-wise and fun.

The main things I have to do in terms of housework are:
  1. Scrub down the shower/tub
  2. Run the dishwasher
  3. Clean out the refrigerator
  4. Do the handwashable dishes
  5. Do laundry (at least enough to get through a few days)
  6. Take out trash
The main things I have planned for fun:
  1. Reading
  2. Watching 'Grimm'
  3. Studying some Ancient Greek
  4. Listening to Celtic music
If I can, I need to get the things in the dining room into the walk-in closet, water the plants, and clean the fish tanks. I'm not sure I'll get everything finished, but I'm at least going to try not to go back to bed.

Happy, happy, joy, joy

It was nice being off today. I learned how to use child locks in my car and ate lunch at O'Charley's with Brandon and kids to celebrate our birthdays jointly (his was yesterday; mine is tomorrow, so we met in the middle). I generally seem more comfortable with children [or at least that was his observation]. Later I took another friend to an appointment and picked up his husband from work, trapped that friend in the back seat due to the child locks (hee hee). That was quite fun. Today I also got a package from Amazon with a fan for work, a pocket watch, and a DVD collection of 'Waiting for God', which I then watched some with YKWIA, and then helped him do some things and looked up some stuff online for him, and finally got home about 10ish. It's been a fairly relaxing, enjoyable day, spent with friends. I'm already getting birthday wishes from Facebook as well. :)

Tomorrow I'm taking someone to a doctor's appointment with our family doctor, who runs terribly behind and so that will take most of the day, which is a bit unfortunate, but really it is necessary, and I'll need to pay my rent and do some errands. I really need to do laundry, as well, but I am determined to do something fun on my birthday, and after all, I took it off from work to enjoy some time away from the grind. So we'll see. Anyway, I think I'm going to try the fan out and see how it works. I'll have to unplug the camera from the USB to attach it as I've been fiddling with photos--Brandon took this picture of me whilst we were at the restaurant:

Told you I wag getting huge. On the other hand, I didn't look too bad today. I may need to think about getting a hair cut again, though--I look a bit ragged and shaggy. Oh, well, I've certainly looked worse. And I suppose it's not too bad for someone who will turn 46 in about 9 hours. :)

Thursday, September 27, 2012

Tonight I need to:

  1. Do laundry.
  2. Work on a book review or two.
  3. Get my library books that are due together.
  4. Take out the trash.
  5. Take out the recyclables.
  6. Straighten up a bit.

I'd like to:

  1. Take a short nap.
  2. Catch up on 'Doctor Who'.
  3. Maybe watch something else fun.
  4. Do some reading.

What do you think the chances are of all of that happening? :) We'll see....

Today I have:

  1. Blogged more than 'Hi, I'll blog later!'
  2. Eaten tuna for breakfast, cooked macaroni and cheese for lunch, eaten crackers and cheese for dinner, and blended some frozen berries and fresh strawberries into a tasty treat.
  3. Learned to upload a video clip to Blogger.
  4. Finished the game notes.
  5. Put said notes on my Kindle for tomorrow.
  6. Napped (yeah, you would think I wouldn't have, but I took a break during the notes).
  7. Gone out to a convenience store for some things (yeah, I wasn't going to go out, but they had the walks clear by 9 am and the drive clear by 2 pm, so it wasn't bad, just cold).
  8. Listened to some music.
  9. Played (and won) a game of Monopoly on the Kindle.
  10. Called my mom and checked on her and my grandmother, who's been getting frailer. Starting Monday my mom will have some help in taking care of her mom, which is good.
  11. Called someone who's been helping with that situation and let her know my mom has found some help.
  12. Called a friend who was cooking so I let him get back to his sauce. I have now made more phone calls in one day than I usually do over several.
Left to do:
  1. Charge batteries for recorder for the game tomorrow (should have been doing that all day, but if all else fails, I have some regular batteries I can take with me. I just prefer rechargeable ones).
  2. Put batteries, recorder, and Kindle in my bag for tomorrow.
  3. Clear up some of the stuff that I moved all over the place when trying to find a sympathy card the other day.
  4. Make a sympathy card with a lovely Christina Rosetti poem inside. I knew that poetry collection on my Kindle would come in handy.
  5. Watch something from the DVR, which means either Tower Prep or Doctor Who. I still have loads on there I haven't touched, and I'm not used to having the time to do so. And since I actually don't feel like conking out early this evening, I may get a chance to watch.
PS Found a nice use for the Kindle the other day. A friend called to ask about a point regarding Latin pronunciation. Having studied both classical and mediaeval Latin, and having gotten rusty in both, I wasn't sure of the answer, but...I have Wheelock's Latin (THE gold-standard Latin grammar today) on my Kindle and was able to look it up. Mind you, I have a copy at home (an earlier edition, though, but really, how much does a dead language change?), but I wasn't at home when he called and wouldn't normally have had that on me. Although it's true a book can be easily used via index and table of contents and carried about in a backpack or purse, the right book out of hundreds is not so easy to pick. With my Kindle, I have access to up to 1,500 books or so if I so wished. The newer ones can handle over 3,000. As it is, I have 150 books plus collections in my hand (so probably more like 400 books), so that is an advantage. Plus, I can change the font size as needed (I often do as my eyes tire over the course of the day.)

I want a new drug

This was really fun. Thanks, David Rothman!

What a wonderful day

--much better than yesterday. First, I got all of the things I do before the game to get the house ready for guests finished before the appointed time. My blood sugar was great today, and I went easy on the chocolate, just having a little. I brought whole-grain Goldfish crackers that are baked, have real cheddar and no artificial preservatives, and have a serving size of 55 (I get full on about 30 at a time). I also ate veggies and Tostitos--but everything in moderation compared to normal Sunday grazefests.

The game was mostly trying to figure out how to kill about 50 rat-snake-spider things that are venomous, fast, and the size of a Pekinese to make sure the goo that is assimilating people and animals in Arkham will not take over the world. Meanwhile the folks headed to Antarctica nearly got smashed against the ice pack by a killer storm and found a ship embedded in an iceberg. Creepy. We finished early because Brenda is down to one car (brake trouble in the other) and had to go pick family members up. So I got my two hours of notes in and I'm home early, too. I'm going back out for a bit at 10:30 but I don't anticipate being late getting home tonight. Yay.

I generally feel pretty well today on all fronts. I was a little fuzzy this morning but finally woke up properly. The only trouble with having the new mattress is that I'm reluctant to get out of bed because it's just so damn comfy. :)

PS D's coming back to work tomorrow after being off for several weeks after surgery. Yay!

Today was good

I worked, but it was only for a couple of hours to show one of the new people how to do the cooler. Then I had some time to blog and then went over to a friend's to watch a really great trio of shows, 2057, from Discovery, showing technologies of the future and how they're being worked towards today. One is on medicine, the other on a futuristic wired city, and the last is about space and energy. They were excellent. I knew of some of the innovations, but not most, and each had a little story to tie it all together, which was kind of nice. The future they envision, though will be fairly intrusive by our standards--with even clothing revealing our secrets to insurance companies. Then I headed back home, had some more time to blog, and I intend to get some rest before picking up another friend late tonight. It was almost like being off--I didn't work on notes, I didn't work 10 hours, etc., and I got to have some fun and some 'me' time. About the only thing I didn't do was any reading. I'm still in the early part of The Golden Compass, after all, but I'll save that for lunch breaks and doctor's visits. :)

Okay, that's all for now. I think I'll take a nap.
