Amelia Earhart was the first person to fly solo from Honolulu, Hawaii to Oakland, California.
Two-and-a-half years later, she and her navigator will disappear over the Pacific, generating an enduring mystery that has endured for decades. But regardless of the outcome, her daring will to fly and achieve what others would dismiss as mere fancy for any person, nevermind a woman, still inspires us.
