Last night I was in a great deal of pain, until the ibuprofen finally kicked in, hence no blogging, although I managed to tweet. This morning I woke up in the same degree of pain. I did not manage to walk over to physical therapy, which is a shame, because I probably would have felt better. But at 7 this morning I was simply not in the shape for it. Because the pain the night before had been more than a bit distracting, I'd forgotten to take my long-acting insulin. This morning my blood sugar was almost 400. I was groggy, incredibly tired, and in pain. So I called an rescheduled for Monday. By the time it was time to go to work, the pain had subsided mostly, but I still felt wonky despite taking my insulin. I pretty much felt blah and uncomfortable all day, like when you're coming down with something, but in this case it was normal aches and pains coupled with the neck thing and residual high blood sugar.
Nevertheless, I made it to my 6:30 pm quitting time, somehow, trying to get absorbed in my work enough that it distracted me to how I was feeling. That was pretty successful. A little before 6 I looked out and it was raining cats and dogs, so I asked one of my co-workers who gets off at the same time for a ride, which she was happy to do. When we got off, it was a torrential downpour. Water was coming up quickly--the parking lot was partially flooded and we had to take the high way out. Debris had been blown from trash cans; one of those cigarette snuffers was about 50 yards away from where it should have been. The road was treacherous. The creek and reservoir were up. We could barely see on my way home, and I got soaked just going from the car to my front step, since I had to detour around the construction on the retaining wall.
I shucked off my clothes, dried off and changed, and checked the creek behind my apartment building. It was high but not in danger of cresting the hill. I put the late evening news on, and apparently my area of Lexington was being bombarded by a small but stationary storm that was raining buckets for about an hour and a half, an isolated thunderstorm that was not considered severe but nevertheless took down trees and power lines throughout the area. Downtown had over an inch in an hour, and I think the Richmond Road area was hit harder. Towards the end of things, when it was breaking up over here, the west side of town got hit. I don't know if any of my friends got it; they live in other areas of town. But boy, did we.
About 7:30 I turned the TV off and the day was just weighing on me, and I went to bed. I haven't 'napped' in a few days for any extended time. This time I woke up 3 1/2 hours later.
So now I'm up, and I'm contemplating tomorrow. It's jeans day, so I can probably scrape by without doing laundry until Saturday. Here's hoping it's a better day than today was.
