In the last 48 hours we've gotten over 6 inches of rain here in Lexington, 8 1/2 in my hometown of Danville, and over 11 in some parts of the state. At least two deaths are being blamed for the weather, including a man who was electrocuted by downed lines in water. Brenda was late to the game because the main road she comes into Lexington by was flooded, and this morning the bus dispatcher was telling all operators to watch for water as they pulled into stops so they wouldn't drench the waiting riders. There were also malfunctioning lights and brief power outages this morning. Last night when I got in (fortunately the boyfriend of one of my co-workers dropped me off during the rainstorm), I must have had some power loss because even though all the clocks were still set, the pump on the aquarium had to be primed.
We definitely needed the rain (we were down something like seven inches), and it's absorbed a lot, but that's just so much rain to get at once. I'm ready for it to end now, but I think it's supposed to rain through tomorrow morning. The rain has been steady and not just a drizzle; it's been raining pretty hard, although when Brenda brought me home about 9 pm it had finally abated for awhile. Anyway, here's hoping to avoid drought but with minimal damage. I saw one house on the news where the couple had just completed renovations and were going to buy insurance on Monday. They lost everything in about an hour.
