Ah, Tofu Goodness

also known as Tofu in Sesame Sauce--from Great Wall over on Waller Avenue--is a wonderful thing. Basically it's fried tofu with broccoli in a sesame sauce with peppers and sesame seeds. My stomach is very happy. I got two fortune cookies:

'Don't let statistics do a number on you' and 'It's better to be the beak of a hen than the tail of an ox'.

'Gentiles will eat anything', or so my friend, who is Jewish, tells me

But I had to draw the line at undercooked catfish today at lunch. I very indelicately spit out a piece into my napkin, I'm afraid. But they let me get some tuna salad instead, and alerted the servers. Serves me right for trying to eat something non-kosher--a bottom-feeder at that. Granted, I'm not Jewish, but I can't help thinking that they are on to something when it comes to unclean food. I don't really like catfish, shrimp, or pork (the latter not being an issue, since I'm a pescu-vegetarian). I have to admit, I'm convinced I was Jewish in a past life and seriously considered converting at some point (much easier for me, as a woman...no circumcision required). I even have a minor in Judaic Studies, so maybe that's all worn off on me.

But I am excited that tomorrow the cafeteria will be serving breakfast for lunch. My favourite! I like breakfast at odd times, like lunch and late at night. I'm rarely up early enough to actually make breakfast before work, and the cafeteria stops serving breakfast before I get there.

I am still craving tofu goodness from Great Wall. I couldn't make it in time before they closed tonight; maybe I can get it between jobs tomorrow, depending on how much money I have left over after my rent is paid.

So this week I lost five pounds

making it a -15 for the last couple of months. My secret? Peanut butter. Lots of peanut butter sandwiches, because since I've been paying a $100 a month dental bill for a few months it's been pretty tight moneywise. But I'll be finished with that in March, at least. This week has been peanut butter sandwiches, small cheesy baked potatoes, macaroni and cheese, a little tuna, and one splurge thanks to a friend of Vietnamese food from Pho BC in Regency Centre off of Nicholasville Road. The last was really good. I had fried tofu in tomato sauce over white rice, two vegetarian egg rolls with tofu inside, and I split an order of tofu fried rice. It was surprisingly mild but they had chili sauce you could put on it to spice it up. Hmmm...nummy.

So, nutritionally speaking it's probably not great--no real fruits or vegetables--but I hope to rectify that in a week and a half. Still, I can't say I'm disappointed in the weight loss at all. At some point last fall I was at my all-time greatest weight--291. Now I'm 275 and losing. Yay. Now if I could just get to the gym...

My precious...(sorry, wrong series)

I have a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, courtesy of the Tates Creek Kroger, which was selling them tonight at 40% off. I have not opened it yet, but even though I have to get up in five hours I may have to read the first chapter at least. There is something wonderful about completing a series of books in your collection. I am very excited about reading it, but I want to savour it rather than run right through it, especially as it is the last.

I also went to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix tonight. I enjoyed it immensely. I thought it flowed better than the others, for one, rather than getting bogged down like some of the other films did. They handled Sirius' death a little different from the book, which I found interesting. The Weasley twins' farewell to Hogwarts was different than I imagined, but still fun. And despite not being quite toad-like enough, Imelda Staunton was excellent as Dolores Umbridge--perky, insane, and evil all at once. And speaking of madness, Helena Bonham Carter was perfect for Bellatrix Lestrange. Evanna Lynch was perfect as Luna Lovegood, too. Whoever did the casting did an excellent job.

The other day I mentioned a trailer for The Golden Compass. I'd also been shown one for Stardust, which looks interesting--and certainly it looks like Michelle Pfeiffer steals the show. It was on the trailer reel tonight, too. Here it is:

It's based off a graphic novel by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess, so hopefully it will be quite good.

There's also my favourite fantasy series of all coming to the big screen--no, believe it or not, it's not the Harry Potter books, but rather Susan Cooper's Dark is Rising series. Here's the trailer that I suppose is supposed to appeal more to modern kids (the original sequence was set in the 70s):

A second one has more emphasis on the fantasy aspects, I suppose.

Obviously there has been some mucking about with the story. Will is supposed to be English, for one thing. This Will Stanton is not. I'll reserve judgement, but I rather unsure of how I'll react to the changes they've made. Still, it's worth a look.

Today was nice, full of Harry Potter and tofu goodness. Strange thing of the day: appaerntly someone has sent me a not-so-subtle hint by signing me up for a subscription to Glamor magazine. I thought I had someone else's mail at first, but lo, it had my name on it. Despite the fact that I rarely put product in my hair I have a secret fondness for makeup tips and the like (I subscribed to Seventeen as a teenager, for example), so I'm okay with it. But I wish I knew who gave me the subscription. Weird.

Well, I have four-and-a-half hours now to sleep, and a chapter of Harry Potter to peek at. Good night.
