It's really weird

that lately--sometimes, but not always--whenever I update a post, it automatically opens up for a new post and then saves a secondary draft of the post on the list, which I then have to delete. I'm not sure what's going on. But I've taken out the extra drafts, and I did some major corrections to the other post, because there were easily ten errors. Wow. I might have well typed like all those cat memes out there that start with 'I can haz'. Oh, well, it should be fine now. Hope you have a great weekend. It looks like we'll be hot but sunny here, and I sincerely hope A took sunscreen, as he is as pasty as I am and burns even worse. Now, for that yoghurt....

My carefully crafted post

Just disappeared when I went to publish from my phone,  on top of my keyboard really having trouble doing predictive text for some reason, meaning lots of editing.  I give up.  Good night.  Tomorrow I'll try to make it substantive and use the computer,  as it will be post 10,000.

Well, Blogger is back!

After over a day of not being able to make posts, that's great. And the ones that were rolled back came back, so I didn't have to get into my backups. The only quirk was that those posts lost their tags, and when I republished them, some tried to publish at the current time rather than their original one. But I can live with that. I know that a lot of people were upset (and yes, I was vexed), but I'm sure that the Google folks did what they could as quickly as they could. I'm not sure how many blogs use Blogger, but well, it's at the least in the hundreds of thousands and probably more. And it's provided for free. So I don't really feel that I can truly complain and say, 'I'll storm off to XXX'. I like Blogger. I've been with them almost 10 years, and this is the worst outage I've ever dealt with. I'm just glad it's over.

So I'll post a few things tonight that I would have yesterday, but I have to finish a couple of projects, too, including the book review that's due Sunday, as I'll have precious little time tomorrow or Sunday to work on it. And of course, there are the game notes.

I did get a boost on the book review. You know I mentioned the book about clear scientific writing? I got it today! Thanks to the lady who sent it to me through PaperBackSwap.com. I really appreciate it.

Sometimes you can be so intent on something

that the obvious escapes you. Blogger has a new feature that allows you to share posts through a variety of ways: via e-mail, blogging about it, sharing it on Facebook or Google Buzz, or tweeting about it. This buttons are now located at the end of each post.

To get them there, however, I had to reset my blog template and clear my cache, but it didn't appear to work. So I reset the widgets as well, as per the Real Blogger Status blog's directions (a very useful blog, by the way). No dice. Then I went back to the Page Elements settings and found that I'd unchecked the box next to that particular function, since it hadn't been showing up anyway. :| So I checked it again, and everything works. I was half afraid I'd wipe out the whole blog just to get a few buttons on there. Fortunately I backed up the template and the content of the blog is backed up itself at least through May. I probably need to back up June. But all eight-almost-nine years' worth is stored on my computer and on an external hard drive, too.

Anyway, enjoy, and share!

Wow

If you use the tool on this page:

Blogger profiles: How to Search Blogger

that allows you to search geographically, and choose United States of America: Kentucky: Lexington

I am the first profile to pop up. I guess because I've been blogging for almost eight years. But there are over 6,000 blogs in that results set. Surely I wasn't the first in Lexington to blog and fill out my profile?

PS I was searching for Brandon's new blog. Brandon, e-mail me (link to left) with your blog address (I haven't been able to find it.)

PPS My 'D' key on the keyboard is sticking. Do you realise how many words have 'D' in them???? Argh!

Well, I had to do some finagling on the layout

because the 'Unshelved' people make beautiful LARGE strips once a week, but everything should be displaying correctly now. The folks at 'Unshelved' told me what to change in my code ('http://www.unshelved.com' rather than 'http://www.overduemedia.com', in case you're having issues), and voilà!--the new strips display. I had to tweak the size of the sidebar (and the tweet badge) as well as the main body of the page, since the comic was too big to display otherwise. In theory when it's normal size it should do fine, too. I'll keep an eye on it. Meanwhile, if you have trouble displaying this blog, please let me know, and what browser you're using. Oh, and the comic runs five days a week now, just so you know. Thanks to the people at 'Unshelved' for helping and for producing such a great strip.

I have a problem with Blogger

Apparently they have decided that a blog can only have 10 labels per post and only 2000 labels per blog. I have 2731, which means I can't add any label at all without getting rid of 732 labels.  Oy vey!

Changes

Today I got home before 8 pm, so I thought I'd 'upgrade' my page to Blogger's Layout version so that I can take advantage of the various gadgets they have now, including one of the latest, 'Following'. It means some changes for the blog format, but I've tried to work within what was available to keep some of the same colours and elements. It's a little more restrictive, but I'm slowly moving over the content you saw on the old page. The blogrolls/links will take the longest, but eventually I'll get it done, and it will give me a chance to go through and weed dead links. In the meantime if anything is missing that you absolutely loved or if you see a new gadget you hate, drop me a line at my Gmail account (or for YKWIA, this e-mail), or you can comment on this post. Thanks!

PS Please if you read this blog regularly, click on 'Follow this blog' to the left. It kind of works like Following on Twitter and gives me some idea of who's reading. You can follow anonymously, too.

Did you know that

this is post number 4,407??? That's a lot of writing. Granted, it's been almost seven years, but in blog terms that's ancient, or at least very old. Just thought I'd mark the march of time and words. :)

Okay, so last night's post was pissy

I guess I've never forgiven Liz...I still remember the date of the break was June 12, 2003. If you're curious, read her post and maybe you'll understand where I'm coming from. Or if you're not interested, we can move on.

Today was much better, even though I spent a good bit of it touching up paint throughout a house. It'll be a busy weekend--tomorrow I work 10 hours plus another round of painting. Sunday's the game (and another funeral to attend for one character, the final leg of a voyage to Antarctica for another, and for one character who hasn't completed a mission yet, getting a chance for another after being in a coma). I've had three characters thwarted on their first missions. One was bitten by a venomous snake and spent the whole time hovering between life and death. One was on a plane that crashed thanks to Nyarlothotep and his wicked sense of humour. The last one went down a oil shaft and succumbed to poisonous gases, because no one made an idea roll that would have suggested respirators, and the players totally had gummy brains that day, too. Monday I'm off work to help out with something, and I'll have to get up very early (but not as early as the last time we did this, thankfully).

Tonight I started a new (temporary) blog for my class on Web 2.0 in libraries. You can find it at http://rabid-librarian2point0.blogspot.com. It's just for that, but if you're interested stop by. It is funny, though, because this blog was customised long before Google brought in all their widgets--or for that matter, before Google owned Blogger. So I've never gotten to play with those sorts of things. I put a newsfeed on the other page. That was fun. Oh, and I put a shared list from Google Reader on that page. Now I just have to comment on a question and send a link to my teachers and I'm done with the assignment. Yay!

How strange

I'm missing a post, one that included a radioplay of 'The Copper Beeches' which was mislabelled in my collection as 'The Missing Bloodstain' (actually they were switched, with 'The Missing Bloodstain' called 'The Copper Beeches' in error). I listened to 'The Missing Bloodstain' yesterday. 'The Copper Beeches' was a week or two ago, either right before or after the cubicles came in. I wonder what else I posted that day? I went back to correct the post and it's gone. It's not even cached somewhere in Google. Oh, well, c'est la vie. But still, it's annoying.

How strange

I can get to Blogger, but not YouTube, Google, Gmail, or my home page at Insight. I could understand if I couldn't get through to the first four only, since they're all owned by Google. But no, that doesn't seem to be it. I think Insight's having some issues, or at least my cable modem is. Connexion was spotty last night, although my phone was working fine (I have Vonage running off a router that plugs into the cable modem).

Huh.

I also can't view my blog on Blog*Spot. Maybe it's time to do a little tinkering, exiting out and restarting.

I am so glad that I

stocked up on macaroni shells and cheese. Yum!

I see my podiatrist, Orla Rooney, on Friday. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of why my foot is giving me so much trouble.

The purging of things in the library to make room for the new people is going according to plan. Today and tomorrow is 'tackle the lateral file' time. Once that's finished it's just whatever is under and in my desk. Yay.

That's pretty much my excitement for the day. I did three hours' worth of game notes since I had one day with just an hour this past week. I may do a quiz and then go to bed. There's a scheduled outage for Blogger coming up.
