As I'm sure you're aware, it's a parody of Disturbed's cover (and its video) of Simon & Garfunkel's 'Sound of Silence'. I do like their arrangement, although of course I am a fan of the original. Here is Disturbed's version:

One of my favourite medical books from my former library...



(YKWIA showed me several of the University of Chicago's medical students' parodies tonight.) Check them out. And Netter's is a beautifully drawn (old school illustration) text. Netter was extremely knowledgeable and talented, being both a surgeon and illustrator. If you have an interest in anatomy, you simply must take a look at his work, which has been a standard in medical education for years.

With Simon Sinek about Millennials and the challenges they face in the workplace. It was recommended to me by a coworker.  Apparently it was the day for video recommendations,  as another coworker suggested the Doc Vader videos such as Doc Vader vs.  the Hospital Administrator.  The author,  who also does music video parodies,  is a physician who uploads under the channel name ZDoggMD,  a character played by Zubin Damania, MD.

And then there was this, which YKWIA found yesterday

This is the most brilliant (and funny) response to the Kim Davis issue that I have read

[and of course, you have to read it to the music]. It is by Jim Trumm, which he posted on Facebook. I don't have any rights to the song, although he said people could share it, so I'm doing so here, but giving him the proper attribution.

(The saga of Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who refuses to issue marriage licenses because God told her not to, is worthy of an opera. Or at least an operetta. So with apologies to W.S. Gilbert, here is my stab at composing a patter song for her character.)

I always follow scripture and I act on God’s authority
But marital longevity was never my priority.

There’ll always be good money in denouncing godless sodomites.
I’ll put my name as author on some books that I can barely read
And get a show on cable to inform the world what God decreed.

My husbands all agree that I know more about what marriage is
Than five Supreme Court justices whose law my faith disparages.
In short in matters biblical and spiritual and Calvinist,
I am the very model of a modern fundamentalist!

In fact, when I see what is meant by constitutionality
When I can do my job with requisite impartiality,
When I can join in marriage two young men who might be thespians,
Or issue nuptial licenses to enterprising lesbians,

When I can see that love is love no matter what the sexes are
And understand that gays are just like me and my three exes are,
In short, when I have finally got a dose of moral clarity
I’ll find out what is meant by the idea of Christian charity.

Til then I’ll flout the law and draw my wages from the county tax
Which is what God would do if only He was up on all the facts

I somehow missed this, but YKWIA showed me it (and the other parody videos from the same people). I enjoyed this immensely.

This is definitely the best of 'Weird Al' Yankovic so far!

Plus it is educational, and has some great word pairings. I particularly like a 'cunning linguist'.

But it turned out to be a wicked parody (in eight parts, the last two episodes 7 parts 1 and 2) :), and it had a plot and everything, so the story turned out to be interesting. It hurt my brain because I was emotionally invested in the characters as they were in the books, but even boy wizards have to grow up sometime....

Thank the Gods this is a parody

...a hilarious one, by the way. It's based on the real interviews, in which the question, 'Should evolution be taught in school?', was asked. You can view that video at: Miss USA 2011 - 51 Delegates Interview (Q2 - Evolution taught in school).

I love my birthday present

Okay, yes, my birthday was in April, but my present didn't come out until July:

It's a parody of Clifford the Big Red Dog based on the HP Lovecraft tale, 'The Dunwich Horror', which is one of my favourites, as a librarian, Dr Armitage of Miskatonic Library, figures prominently. One of my Cthulhu characters is even related to the Whateleys (which is not a particularly good thing). Librarians figure well in "Cliffourd the Big Red God (the title name being a nod to Lovecraft, who like me, favoured old spellings and the ever-present British 'u'). There is one page where Wilbur is listing Cliffourd's bad points and he points out that librarians don't like him.

And there's the end, of course, but if you haven't read 'The Dunwich Horror' I won't spoil it for you.

Anyway, thank you to YKWIA! Thanks to him this is the latest in my Mini Mythos collection. There's also Where the Deep Ones Are, based on 'The Shadow over Innsmouth' and a parody of Where the Wild Things Are and The Antarctic Express, based on 'At the Mountains of Madness' and a parody of The Polar Express. If you are familiar with Lovecraft, I highly recommend them. If you aren't, quite frankly you won't get it.
