I spent an hour in the middle of the night lying in bed awake

So I'm not quite awake this morning. On the other hand, I have:
  1. Given YKWIA a wake-up call, as a workman is coming today.
  2. Taken all of my medicine and checked my blood sugar, including updating my diabetes log program, which draws it off my meter through Bluetooth (I haven't been doing that, and I'm much more compliant when I do).
  3. Eaten breakfast.
  4. Fed the fish and turned on the aquarium light.
  5. Added the last of the potting soil to the window boxes, now that the soil has settled a bit.
  6. Watered the plant, inside and out.
  7. Checked the job boards, the librarian job list, the unemployment office's website, and UK for jobs.
  8. Checked my e-mail.
  9. Gone through my Facebook feed.
  10. Listened to the radio.
  11. Tracked a package.
The package is out for delivery with UPS right now. I need to work on that entertainment centre, so that may be the big project of the day. I'd like to wash the dishes (there are only about five). Later, I'm going to take a friend to the doctor (which is probably when the package delivery will be attempted).

I have to admit, though, between my allergies and sleepiness, I just want to take a nap, but then they'll certainly come with the package. If they knock, I won't hear them, most likely. If they ring the doorbell (yes, I live in an apartment, but have an actual doorbell), I probably won't get to the door in time. It's absolutely maddening.

Okay, I've been on the computer way too much today already. Time to do something useful.

Yesterday I went to the doctor

But it wasn't a completely satisfying visit. On the one hand, the nurse practitioner and doctor were very happy with most of my lab values from the endocrinology visit a couple of weeks ago, and were glad that the changes we made then are having a positive effect on my health. On the other hand, the nurse was concerned about the swelling in my ankles and the some pain I've had in my legs (especially the right, although that could be from my knee), so the doctor sent me straight over to St Joseph East hospital's radiology department and they did a Doppler ultrasound to double-check for blood clots, which wasn't likely, but they didn't want to overlook the possibility. My knee, however, was not quite ignored, but they thought sending me to physical therapy would be the best course. Now, I know I have arthritis in my knees, but I don't think this is normal arthritis pain. Today I walked across the hospital to pick up my mail and back to the library and the pain was so intense on the way back that I was fighting back tears. I'm normally quite good with chronic pain. This isn't the same as that. I've been trying not to overdo ibuprofen, so I haven't taken any for awhile, but I took three tablets (600 mg) this afternoon and borrowed a pillow from the inpatient unit. I then put it on top of one of those library step stools (you know, the little black round ones that roll but push down into place when you step on them), and then used the combination to raise my leg under the desk. That really helped. But I also decided it would be best to see an orthopaedist to determine the cause of my pain before going to therapy. So I called Bluegrass Orthopaedics and made an appointment. Unfortunately, they can't see me till the 24th. So I'll have to deal with the pain until then.

We're not playing the game on Sunday due to Father's Day (Brenda usually goes to a movie with her husband.) We have The Great Gatsby (the Leonardo DiCaprio version) out from Netflix, so we'll probably watch that. Tomorrow I'm taking a friend to an appointment. I'd like to go to the farmers' market and also the library. The Lexington Public Library has acquired some land at Palumbo and Man O'War that used to have the Jaguar dealership, and they're planning on replacing the Eagle Creek branch in a couple of years, which means that while it will be close, I wouldn't call it within walking distance, being across two main roads and maybe a mile away. Or at least, not quite as convenient if someday I could actually work there. But hey, I'm glad they will be getting a new branch. I wonder what will go in where the library is now?

I should go work on the game notes even though we're not playing, but instead I'm going to go put up my leg and elevate it on some pillows. And yeah, I will probably fall asleep. I'm going to try to do a little reading, though. I have so many good books on my 'to read' list and have been failing miserably at doing so. Also, Windows 8.1 really, really wants to restart my computer to do some updates, which may be good, as I'm having some issues playing videos on YouTube where the videos are freezing, and I type things here and it's like the buffer needs a good emptying, because it keeps hanging up. So hopefully that will help. Good night.

Had a great Cthulhu game

in which we all survived, thankfully, despite dealing with lots of Deep Ones and a Star Spawn. I'm posting mainly because I kind of dropped the laptop from about an inch or two above the floor and broke the transmitter for the wireless mouse, although it still works, just the end came off, but also wanted to check to make sure the computer itself works and can connect to the Internet. At the moment I'm connecting through my phone's hotspot, and it seems to be working pretty well. In fact, it seems faster than my cable connexion.

Next up is the show 'Salem', which we've been watching. So, I should go now. Hope you had a great weekend.

Taking a night to myself

I've got the window open and the late evening sun is coming through the sheers, which are being lifted by a nice breeze. Tonight it's going to get down to about 36 degrees, and I have geraniums over at my friends' house out on the back sidewalk in pots, so they're going to bring them in for me just to be sure everything is fine. Tomorrow I'll go over there, help make a store run, watch 'The 100', and get the geraniums.

Tonight I need to do some things around the house, but I also want to relax and have a little fun. I may watch an episode of 'Sherlock' from the DVR, as I still haven't seen the third season but have it recorded. But first I'm going to do a little reading. I'll write later, most likely. Sorry, I didn't see anything in the news I felt like commenting on today yet, except maybe the stupidity of stowing away in a jet's wheel well from San Jose to Hawaii. But for now, I'll just leave it at that. My computer is doing this really slow-typing thing for some reason and I just want to get away from it for awhile.

In bed listening to Of Monsters and Men

'From Finner', in fact, from their album My Head is an Animal. I'm home after spending some time with YKWIA, although sadly, there was actually no 'Grimm' tonight. This afternoon I went by the pharmacy and then stopped by Good Foods Co-op and paid my owner's fee instalment and got some nummy things and some green apple and ginger shampoo and conditioner. Then I went over to YKWIA's, and over to Kroger for some things for them, and then back again. Now I'm home. The week seems like it's lasted a long time, although of course that's just my perception.

I did get some good news today. Two jobs opened up in the area, so I'm going to work on my applications and résumé so I can get them submitted in time. Wish me luck!

Okay, seems like my computer wants to do some automatic updating and plans to shut down in 11 minutes. Time for bed, anyway. Good night.

A little tired and sore, but home

I did not fall up or down my mother's steps. That was a plus. I spent a remarkably good visit with my mom, stepdad, grandmother, the two dogs, and a somewhat shy cat. I didn't sleep well last night, being in a different place than normal, and I didn't have my semi-usual mid-afternoon nap either yesterday or today, in the hopes of getting back into the swing of things when I go back to work tomorrow. I'll probably go to bed a bit early tonight because I have to get up early for that, maybe around 10 pm.

I discovered that as is usually the case, whenever I go out of town my power flickers off and my aquarium pump and microwave need to be reset. I'm not sure why it happened, but I took care of that so the poor fish would have some circulation before sitting down to eat or unpacking. Now it is happily cascading in a proper waterfall.

The walking with a cane thing is working pretty well, although sometimes I forget to put the can down first before my bad foot.

My computer is acting weird. My printer keeps saying it is warming up and acting like it's going to print or scan, and Windows 8 is making some sort of happy chirping sound right before it happens. Who knows.

Alright, I think I'll go unpack. I've already chucked off my clothes, which smell of cigarettes, and traded them for a nightshirt (I do wish my mother didn't smoke; it's not good for her, of course, either). And then I'll get together the stuff for work tomorrow. I'm giving my co-worker back the walker she loaned me. And I'll pack the boot and Tylenol just in case. I did have only one major issue on the trip to Stanford--we went into a Rite Aid and my back suddenly started hurting horribly; I could not sit down fast enough, just from standing and walking around for about 20 minutes. This, despite being in my regular shoe and not the boot. I hope that doesn't happen tomorrow. But once I sat down for a few minutes, all apparently was forgiven, so if it does, I'll just try that and see how it goes. Thank goodness I no longer work in the gas station where so much of the work was standing. I'd still not be back. Yay for sedentary jobs. :)
