A little sad

Obviously, I've been listening to/watching a playlist on YouTube today, and this came up. It always brings tears to my eyes. I hadn't seen this animation before. This song is for my mom It came out the day after her death. It's almost her birth anniversary — she would have been 79 on August 3rd. She passed in 2017.

Harvard professor identifies scrap of papyrus suggesting some early Christians believed Jesus was married

A Harvard professor has identified what appears to be a scrap of fourth century Egyptian papyrus that contains the first known explicit reference to Jesus as married, a discovery that could fuel the millennia-old debate about priestly celibacy in the Catholic church.

The fragment, which has been preliminarily authenticated but still must undergo further testing, portrays Jesus as referring to a woman as his legitimate disciple -- most likely his wife, whom the text’s author probably believed to be Mary Magdalene.

The text is not evidence Jesus was married, said the professor, Karen L. King, a historian of early Christianity at Harvard Divinity School, who is scheduled to discuss her discovery at an international gathering of Coptic scholars in Rome on Tuesday. But she said it may cast new light on the history of early Christianity, including the formation of Christian views of celibacy and whether women were members of Jesus’s inner circle, issues still intensely relevant to the Catholic church, which allows only celibate men to be priests.

This is absolutely amazing

I want to dance with the books, too, and fly. They have captured the joy that books bring, the enrichment, and the imagination, so well. The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr Morris Lessmore also won an Oscar for best animated short film. And it was created in Shreveport, Louisiana, near where I spent six years of my childhood.

The Old Man and The Sea, Animated on Glass: What Russian finger-painting has to do with iconic literature and the Oscars



The film was done by animating a series of paintings on glass by Russian animator Aleksandr Petrov and his son.

Makes me consider going back and reading the novella now that I am older, wiser, and far more patient.

Great Mythos video

On a similar note, I would so dress an infant in this onesie, with its picture of baby Cthulhu eating a teddy bear. Am I just wrong, or do I just have a sense of humour (unlike a couple of people I could mention?) There are also T-shirts, mugs, etc. with this design.

Guess what? He now has his very own book, too, coming out October 1st. 'Tis very late

but YKWIA just showed me an interesting web series (from quite a few years back, so for some of you this won't be new). It's called Ghosts of Albion. It was created by Amber Benson (Tara of Buffy: the Vampire Slayer) and Christopher Golden, an American novelist. The series features among its voice talents Anthony Daniels (C3PO) and Emma Samms (remember 'Dynasty'?) There are several chapters on the BBC website, and there are two books out for it. There is also a Ghosts of Albion roleplaying game from Eden Studios that was set to be released in September as well (I'm not sure if that actually happened; publication dates are very tenuous in the gaming world, but you can purchase a PDF copy from their website.) Here's a free starter demo (PDF). It sounds like it would be interesting to play. For more about the world of Ghosts of Albion, check out the Wikipedia article
