So we don't have HBO, and we wanted to watch 'The Gilded Age',

 and Lexington Public Library only has Season Three, inexplicably. Two copies.

In case you didn't know, anyone in a contiguous county (including Fayette) can get a library card at the Jessamine County Public Library and have full borrowing rights if they're an adult. Unlike the Lexington Public Library, they still have physical CDs, older books in series, Hoopla, and Freegal music, which I miss. It fills in some of the gaps. They're at 600 South Main Street in Nicholasville, so not far away, and they also have a studio and a Library of Things, where you can check out practical things like birding backpacks and telescopes. I also found the first book in the Amelia Peabody mystery series, which I dearly love. So, unlike LPL, they keep older books in series. We've had to request books from interlibrary loan because LPL no longer has the earlier books for the series we want to get into.

Also, JCPL has access to Freegal Music, which LPL used to have. You can download a limited number of songs a week to keep.  For as long as you want. Period. I managed to get several albums that way when I used it before. So that is nice.

                                                  I'm also really excited because they have Hoopla, which allows you to check out five items per month--books, audiobooks, movies, or TV series. I plan on checking out Life is Beautiful, a 1997 movie that is very highly acclaimed that will apparently make me cry, and the dramatised audio version of Crocodile on the Sandbank once I am finished re-reading the book.

Also, some time ago, LPS got rid of all their CDs, and they had some Shinedown ones I got to listen to. I know, I can stream them. It's not quite the same. 😊 So between the two libraries, a lot of service gaps get filled.

Did you know?

That if you sign on to an unfamiliar computer, say, at a library, Google will send you a notification (not a text, a notification) asking if it's you and then have you tap one of three numbers to correspond to what the computer says?  That was a little creepy.  Very useful, but still creepy.

I'm on the computer at the Beaumont library because it's not quite time for the public visitation for my friend, but I didn't want to go back home, but rather stay on this side of town.  The funeral home is right down the street.  I took YKWIA, who will be helping our friend with the family visitation, so he had to go earlier.  But I'm all dressed and ready, and there seemed to be no real reason to go back home until later.

So I'm where I feel most comfortable, a library, looking through books and music. I pared down my keys to the car fob, ignition key, and house key only to realise when I got here that I don't have my library card, the actual card being with my Kindle and the key ring card being on the rest of the ring at home.  But they let me use my licence to check out a few things, which was nice.  I can apparently sign in to a computer using my name, but when I went to the reservation kiosk it asked for my library card number, which I was able to glean from the Lexington Public Library application on my phone.

Anyway, the plan is to spend some time doing some things here rather than go home.  It's just a little over an hour till the public visitation begins, and the library closes at the same time, so it was fortuitous.

The crust isn't the prettiest, but it looks like it's going to be tasty, so I might lose points on presentation and get some elsewhere. Brandon suggested that since I had enough ingredients, I do two pies to determine if it comes out okay, that way I can taste one. I'm not sure what to do with the rest of the pie in that case, but hey. I guess I can take it later in on Friday for the lunch crew. I used up all the bourbon in the tiny airplane bottle. The crust recipe was for two crusts, but I had to double the recipe for the custard, so instead of putting a whole thing of bourbon in, I made two batches. Each has a little over 2 Tbsp. of bourbon in it.

It was nice to bake again. I did have to bring out my mixer to get the custard smooth. I'm not used to doing custards, and despite the fact that the ingredients were the same for each, the nutmeg clumped a bit on one (that'll probably be the one I keep in reserve). Amazingly, I got very little on me, and could have done it wearing pearls and one of those poufy 50s dresses as long as I had an apron. Cleanup wasn't too hard, either. I put the dishes that could be run through the dishwasher in there, washed all the hand washables, wiped down the counters and worktable. So there's just waiting till midnight, putting a knife in to see if they're done, and if not, cook about 10 more minutes. Then I'll let them cool and taste the one and wrap it up, and put the other in the covering that came with the pie pans (a top cover locks into a bottom plastic plate with the aluminium pie plate inside).

I went ahead and got some of those Sparkling Ice drinks, too, and I've tried the orange-mango and coconut-pineapple, and can give two thumbs' up for them.

I think I'll be staying up for awhile with the pies. It makes for a good day that I didn't just come home and crash, which means I can obviously stay up. I fall asleep when I'm bored or trying to avoid other things (like cleaning house or doing laundry).

PS While I was at UK today I got a UK library card. I didn't check anything out, but it's nice to be able to. :)
