An interesting series of SF books is Larry Correia's "Grimnoir Chronicles," an alt-history set in the tween-war period (1920-1930's). Not only have both Tesla and Edison made wondrous achievements in science, but for some strange reason real magic has begun developing on Earth, as well. The twist on real history can be hilarious at times. The series title - - Grimnoir - - is a portmanteau of "grimoire" and "film noir," and the atmosphere is very similar to Dashiell Hammett or Raymond Chandler. Highly recommended! The first book is titled "Hard Magic."

I will have to check it out. Thanks for the info; I'm not familiar with this author at all. I love alt-history. :)
