It would have been great if I'd taken my contacts out before putting my hands down in an aquarium to clean algae off the glass. As it was, I washed my hands and arms up to my elbows three times before taking them out, visions of eye-eating bacteria or amoebas in my head. Think I'm crazy? Google it. If they can be in dirty, warm water, then that's the perfect environment. In fact, that is one reason you won't find aquaria in our hospital -- infection control.
