You know you're getting old and decrepit when climbing up on top of the bed to stand there and change a light bulb so you're not totally in the dark has all the adrenaline of a nocturnal insertion.

Yay!

1. My air conditioning is back on and working!
2. T-Mobile rolled out an over-the-air update for the Samsung Galaxy S5 to Android 5.1.1. :) My inner geek is happy.
3. Class was the best one so far since I started teaching it. I'm getting more comfortable.
4. I saw two deer running across a field near the hospital when we were outside after class.
5. I'm finally eating dinner (macaroni and cheese).
6. I get paid tonight (don't get excited, creditors; it's mostly allocated already)
7. I found out my stove hood light is actually a standard light bulb. I thought it was a smaller one, because it was clear glass and looked to be as old as the actual apartment buildings, which I think were built in the 1970s. :)

I did manage to slightly burn myself with boiling water (important safety tip, always pour the water away from you, not towards, which I know, but ignored).

The phase-out [of traditional incadescent bulbs] has created a surprising political outcry, with some people even stocking up on bulbs. That's because today's main alternative, compact-fluorescent bulbs, are awful. They've got three main shortcomings: They're ugly; they contain mercury, which can be extremely hazardous if the bulbs are broken; and most importantly, they put out harsh, white light that many people (myself included) find unbearable.

LED light bulbs are far better for the environment, and while they cost what seems to be an amazing amount of money at present, they can last for decades. And they come in a blue-white for those of us who like that, and a yellow-white for those who find comfort in the old incadescent lights.

Let there be light

For the past week or so, my aquarium has been dark, as the light bulb bit the dust. Now that I've been paid, I was able to get a new one today. However, it annoys me how these things are built. The box says it is recommended that these bulbs be changed every 8-12 months. My original bulb, the one that the aquarium started out with, lasted for years. My last bulb made it maybe nine months.

Fortunately the sword plants are still going strong, although I think the water sprite has bitten the dust. The fish seem happy though. I do need to put some more water in tonight or tomorrow, as it's gotten fairly low.
